I'm going to share with you some of my favorite tips for public speaking. This is an extremely hard thing for most people to do, but you really can get good at it if you constantly get yourself up and in front of an audience to speak.

  • The Thesis: When you give a speech, you sort of want it to be like an essay. You have your intro, which explains your thesis, than the body, than the conclusion. Most people that give speeches don't have a thesis. There has to be a point you're trying to present that can be summed up in one sentence. If you can't sum it up in one sentence, your audience will have no idea what your point is.
  • Tell A Story: A story is part of our nature as humans. It is an amazing tool for relating and building rapport. It has been used since the cavemen carved pictures on walls. A story is a way of getting many different things across. The most important thing it can be used for is getting the point across. The next thing is that you can display a "real" side of yourself, which people can relate to. This builds rapport. Lastly, you can add in a little emotion that can really get people involved.
  • Speak Loud & Make Eye Contact: Obviously, I can't make a point to be confident, so I just have to do the characteristics of it. You need to project your voice out into the audience. There should be no muffles of sound. Everyone needs to hear you. You also need to look at your audience. You can just have your head down because you'll come off as an unconfident speaker.
