So, it is time to buy your recent graduate a new car to get back and forth to work or college, or it is time to buy a home in that great school district, but you have found yourself with a less-than-fantastic credit score? Well, do not feel alone; millions of people have low credit ratings, have debt problems, or are forced to file bankruptcy every day. Building or rebuilding a credit rating is a long task, but it is possible to improve your credit score by up to 100 points in a short period of time. First, know what kinds of things make your credit score lower than you would like it to be. There can be errors or omissions on your credit report that negatively impact your overall score. For example, I once knew a woman who paid her mortgage on time every month for years. Then, her mortgage was sold and the new company did not report her good payment history to a credit bureau. When you carry a mortgage loan and make your payments promptly, that is a plus for your credit score. Since hers was not being reported, she was getting no brownie points for her biggest loan. Make sure your credit report is right; get credit for good payment history and remove errors. Pay off credit card balances as quickly as possible. Even if you must forego some lifestyle changes temporarily, the sacrifice will be worth it in the long run. Take every spare dime you have and apply it to credit card debt.
