It is no secret that writing articles is one of the biggest free ways to bring people to your website. But a lot of webmasters and marketers are put off because they think they don't know how to write.

If you think that writing articles is difficult then think again. I'm going to show you how I have made it easy for myself, and for you too. Today's word processors have grammar and spell checkers so you're halfway there already! Here are some tips to help you out.

1. Don't get stressed out about what you want to say. You know what it is you want to sell. Think about the topic from your customers' point of view, think of the questions they might ask and base your articles on answering those questions. Stay focused and don't waffle away from the point.

2. Keep it simple. Don't make it harder than it really is. Think about what you want to say and just start writing. Once you have what you want typed out or written down then you can edit it and spell check.

3. Keep your paragraphs short and to the point. That way they will be more pleasing on the eye and keep your readers attention. Use bullet points or numbers if it helps as these will also add flair to your articles.

4. Don't make your articles too short or too long. Ideally keep your articles to about 300 - 500 words. You can use the word count on your computer to keep an eye on the length but try to avoid going beyond 700 words.

5. When you have finished your article don't submit it straight away. Read it through and re-read it. Make sure you have said what you wanted to say and check on spelling and grammar. If possible, get someone else to read it as well and make a note of any constructive criticism they have.

6. Remember it's an article you're writing and not a sales letter. Your aim is to inform your readers and lead them to your website or blog. That is where the selling takes place. If your article reads as a sales page it will put your readers off.

7. Write your article as if you're talking to a close friend. Use normal everyday language that they can understand. You don't want them reading with a dictionary by their side. Be friendly and your personality will shine through. This helps to build a relationship with your readers.

By following the above guidelines you have a far better chance of keeping your readers attention and getting them to click on the link to your website.
