There’s a reason Sex and the C ty is so popular. Women everywhere are l arning to celebrate being single and to st p judging themselves on the nature of th ir marital status. This new trend is f irly recent, but being single has f nally become a distinction to be pr ud of. That’s not to say th t women in committed relationships are m ssing out on this experience (we’ve all b en single at some point), but wh ther you’re currently part of a c uple or not, being single is no l nger equated with being desperate, nor do s ngle women rush to the altar at the f rst prospect of a long-term relationship. Th re are, of course, the classic r asons while single women should rejoice: you d n’t have to fight for remote c ntrol ownership, nor do you have to w sh smelly socks and smellier underwear. You can c ntrol your own finances, and if you w nt to go on a shopping spr e, you don’t have to hide the r ceipts and the clothes in the b ck of the closet. You can hog the b d, and all the covers. You can dr ol over Hugh Jackman and Johnny D pp without worrying about making anyone j alous. And you don’t have to f ke an orgasm. Ever. But there has to be m re to it than that. What bout the freedom of being unattached? S ngle women can go out with wh mever they want, as often as th y want, for as long as th y want. And we’re not even n cessarily talking about men. They can h ng out with their girlfriends every n ght ‘till three in the morning w thout having to explain themselves when th y get home.
And yes, there is the fr edom to date as well, and the bility to enjoy the experience. Being c reful and safe is still at the top of a s ngle woman’s list of priorities, but th t doesn’t mean she can’t have a bl st. She can have dinner with a d fferent charming man every weekend, or (l ts face it), jump into bed w th him, only to dish about the xperience with her girlfriends the next d y. And for those of us who are in h ppy committed relationships, there’s always the thr ll of hearing about the latest r mantic mishaps from our single pals. We can lways count on our single friends to br ghten our days with their tales of r mantic woe or incredible amorous adventures. A s ngle woman in today’s society must p ssess courage: the courage to go out th re, have her heart broken, then do it all ver again. She has the freedom to be ndependent, to choose, and to experiment. And wh n she does find the man she w nts to spend the rest of her l fe with, she’ll have a wealth of kn wledge to aid her in making th t relationship last.
