Pet Snake Care

Before you make that trip to the pet store, ask yourself "Why do I want a snake?" Is it because you're trying to impress your friends? Is it because you saw a killer anaconda in a popular film, and you'd like something along those lines to show people when they come over? Do you want to shock or scare your parents and other relatives during holiday gatherings? Thanks to a nearly age-old role in mythology, folklore, religion, and, more recently, horror films and music...

Pet Toad Care

There is perhaps no other creature that has been so mythologized, feared, and misunderstood as the toad. Indeed, the toad has long been associated with black magic, poison, and death. At the same time, however, toads have been considered symbols of fertility, love, and health by alchemists, gypsies, and all manner of ancient peoples. In a more modern context, toads have enjoyed increasing popularity as easy-to-keep, unique pets.

Leopard Gecko

Leopard geckos belong to the family Eublepharidae, this family includes all geckos with movable eyelids. The members of this family also lack "toe pads" (pads of tiny, hair-like scale projections on the undersides of the toes), therefore these lizards are not able to climb smooth, vertical surfaces.

Reptiles and Salmonella

I'll bet you didn't know that lizards and turtles can carry harmful bacteria called Salmonella. If there are infants or small children in your home, reptiles might not be safe pets for your family.

Boa Constrictors as Pets

One of the more popular exotic pets on the market over the years has been the boa constrictor. Some individuals are not aficionados of reptiles, but those that are enjoy boa constrictors for their grace, beauty, and strength. Snakes are relatively easy to care for, but special handling and maintenance is necessary for your safety as well as theirs.

Snakes And Evolution

Snakes have been on this planet for millions of years, and might be the most adapted of the reptiles. We don't really know that much about how they developed throughout the years (their skeletons are very fragile, so fossil records are limited), but they probably appeared around the time of dinosaurs, and descent from lizard ancestors alike the monitor lizard. One of the oldest snake skeleton was found in the Saharan Desert, and dates back to 130 million years ago.

They're Everywhere, They're Everywhere!

With all of the rain we have been having the past few months you may be noticing a lot more snakes out. Florida has about 45 species of snakes and 44 subspecies found in Florida but only 6 species are venomous. Thus leaving the rest non-venomous and harmless, unless you break your leg or neck trying to get away from them.

Moses The Turtle and My Arrogance

I learned a lot from Moses after that. I learned how awesome our mutual Creator is! There is nothing that slipped by Him when He was creating all creatures great and small - no detail He wasn't aware of!
