Grandparenting - Rights and Issues in the United States

America is facing a new crisis in regards to the issues of the elderly. Grandparents are being denied even simple visitation to their grandchildren for reasons such as divorce, adoption, age discrimination and low income, single parent issues and the grandchild has become the pawn. In todays society many grandparents have taken responsibility and raised grandchildren due to unstable parents.

A Memory

Although hard to believe, it has been almost nine years since my Grandpa passed away. I've lost other family members before, but none left an impact on my life such as him. He was more than a Grandpa to me, he was a substitute parent and the friend I knew I could always count on.

Grand Parents Rights - Child Custody

The world has changed dramatically in the last decade and we are now seeing more divorce cases than ever before but what about the Grandparents rights? Some may say it's a good thing that we should be able to move on from a relationship where we are not happy and we should be pleased that the process has been made easier for the couple concerned, but what about everyone else who is involved in this relationship? Everything becomes more difficult and very messy for both the...

Grandparent Rights - Standing Up For a Child

Children have no voice when it comes to making decisions about who gets to visit them, about who gets to love them. Somehow the cliche about , " a child can't have too many adults that love them", becomes forgotten. When grandparents are "Unreasonably Denied" visitation to a grandchild their first concern is for the child, and how they will be affected by the lost access.

The Power of the Stroller

My husband and I took granddaughter Kaydi to Disney World earlier this year. We knew before we left that this would be an undertaking, neither of us being 30 (or anywhere close) anymore and not having firsthand experience at parenting a 3-year old for nigh on 20 years. While we knew it would be magical to experience Disney through Kaydi's eyes, we wondered how she'd be after a few days of separation from her folks.

Family Memories to Live On

They shriek, they scream, they thump around the house slamming doors having the time of their lives, while my wife and I just cringe and leave them alone. Grandchildren on a stay-over create havoc in the home, and it's worth every minute. Happy memories fuel stories for future gatherings and happy family memories are the best of all.

The Grandparent Connection

After having children of my own and seeing my parents with my children, I'm inclined to agree with Bill Cosby who said, "These are not the people I grew up with! These are old people who are trying to get into Heaven!" But does the "grandparent connection," i.e., the love, the spoiling, the attitudes, work the other way as well? Would a child treat a grandparent differently than he/she would treat a parent?

Grandparenting and Working Parents

With career parents who are seemingly always on the move, sometimes they hardly get to listen to and talk with their children. When they are together, the discussions seem to always center on home assignments, grades, soccer practice, etc. But, when the children are around grandparents, it's a different story.

Grandfather's Love

I wrote this over 2 years ago to express the joy experienced in being a grandparent. Many people share this wonderful feeling. Ellie is now 5 and more fun than ever.

Once Upon a Christmas Eve

Every family has at lease one tradition built around holidays, one which grandparents enjoy sharing. "Granny, why does Papa always give us new pajamas for Christmas?" Kurtis asked as he crawled into my lap.
