Can Meditation Be Useful For Treating Depression

Meditation can be a useful tool to use in treating depression, along with therapy and medication. It helps people to see that their depression is not who they are, and that they always have the power to influence and change their experience. Experts have agreed that regular meditation can be very effective in lifting moods in patients with a history of dysthymia and mild depression. Many studies have shown that depressed people feel much better after eliciting the relaxation response.

Depression and Insomnia

It seems that depression and insomnia, while being two separate disorders, do interact with each other. The American Psychiatric Association has quoted a study in which people with insomnia were nearly 10 times more likely to have depression and over 17 times more likely to have anxiety than people without insomnia. So, if you are depressed and also have insomnia, it would be a good idea to be treated for both. Maybe once you start sleeping better, your depression will go away

Composing Landscape Photographs

When you compose your photos of spectacular landscapes, you want your audience to be just as awe-inspired by the scene as you were. Express your unique viewpoint in your pictures, capture the main theme and relationship between the most important characters while eliminating the unimportant, and "see" things the way the film would. This will allow you to compose great creative and dramatic photos.

The Rule of Thirds in Digital Photography

The rule of thirds is a widely accepted principle and one of the long-standing rules of photography. The basic idea of this is that you get a much more aesthetically pleasing image if you place the subject of your photo a third of the way across the frame instead of in the center of the frame. It is long been the accepted way to create more beautiful photos.

A Wine's Bouquet

Bouquet is a French term for a wine's scent. Younger wines have aromas, which are the smells associated with a particular grape and/or spice, its variety, region, or condition. Older ones have bouquet; the complex and deep aromas that develop with age. They are attributed to the process of fermentation, processing and aging, and largely develop after bottling.

A History of European Knitting

Knitting caught on in Europe quickly and spread rapidly. Royalty and the upper class made knitted garments very fashionable. Knitting has gone through trade guilds and cottage industries, and the invention and improvement of knitting machines. Even though knitting machines have advanced greatly in the last 500 years or so, however, hand knitting is still very much alive, as a very popular hobby.

Collecting Antique Postcards

Antique postcards are a wonderful peek into the past. Although images are often not historically correct, they give us a picture of what has been (of what people wore, and what they did, and where they did it, and what was important to them) that we often can't get anywhere else.

The Gulf Islands, with their world famous natural beauty, and ideal waters for sailing are a wonderful place to visit. Make sure you know your own limits, and plan ahead to make sure your sailboat's engine is in good working order, and you have the proper tidal and navigation charts, and that you can find mooring if you are traveling in peak late summer and early fall months. Enjoy the many provincial marine parks with lots of marine life such as whales and seabirds, and exploring...

The Dangers of Not Getting Enough Sleep

"What do the nuclear accident at Chernobyl, the near meltdown at Three Mile Island, the disastrous oil spill by the Exxon Valdex, and the loss of the space shuttle "Challenger" all have in common? They were all caused by people who were making mistakes because they had too little sleep." It is clear that there is a tremendous cost both personally and to society in general, of not getting enough sleep. Make sure you get enough sleep, and the world will be a safer place!
