Antique Moving Toy - Automaton

During the 18th and 19th centuries, middle and upper class families were kept amused by a source of stimulating entertainment - the automaton. This was a toy aimed at adults, which came in human or animal form and behaved like a robot. The automaton could perform a variety of intricate movements, often accompanied by music and they kept the adults amused for hours.
