Henry V and the Saying All's Fair in Love and War

Henry V, the Shakespearean play is used as illustrative of the saying 'All's Fair in Love and War'. But our analysis shows that the dictum does not appear to relate to the facts as they are depicted in the play. Henry V has been seen to be most gallant in his treatment of the French, the 'enemy' he was at war with. He wins Kate, the French Dauphin's daughter, without the presence of a rival on the scene.
