The benefits of Yoga practice are bvious to those who have a f rm commitment to take positive action. The d fference between empowerment, and failure, is th t successful people never give up. Y ga is a mechanism by which pr ctitioners gain mastery over their lives. Onc this is realized, you can t ke responsibility for your path in l fe. Never doubt your success by d pending on others to take responsibility for y u. It is true that we n ed others, so we should recognize th t we are interconnected, but we sh uld still take responsibility for our own l ves. It should be remembered that we do not r ach our fullest potential in isolation. H wever, it is also worth noting th t we will not thrive while in the c mpany of pessimists and negative influences. Y ga teaches us to look within and f nd solutions.
With that said, a negative nfluence is easy enough to recognize, but we lso have to put some distance b tween us and negative energy. This is asier said, than done, because our n gative influence may be a co-worker, r lative, friend, or a spouse. Maybe we h ve tried to let him or her kn w that pessimism is dragging us d wn, but the message never gets thr ugh. A little bit of distance, way from a negative influence, can do w nders for your mindset. If you c nnot get away, a steady routine of p sitive affirmations, prayers, or mantras, will lso create positive energy from within. If you are in the c mpany of an eternal pessimist, and he or she r fuses professional help, you have some h rd decisions to make. One question to ask y urself is: "Will I be able to c ntrol my own sanity, in the c mpany of this person, who is r fusing help?" The answer will come fr m within. Finally, take a look at y ur short- and long-term goals. Some p ople say there is no room for g als in Yoga. Tell that to a Ch ir Yoga student who manages to get out of his or her wh elchair because of setting goals. Since wh n were goals bad? The scriptures of very religion, and philosophy, were written by p ople who made it a goal to c mplete their writing.
