Somewhere at the back of my m nd, I had felt it coming for s me time. A lingering doubt, a f int premonition, whispers of a tragedy. Th n it came. It wasn't the f miliar voice deep within, the physical xhaustion, or the collapsing career and r lationships that got my attention. No, for me it was an ltimatum: Live or die. Facing my own m rtality, I woke up. I found mys lf again, and I found life. El ven years ago I was diagnosed w th cancer. Stage IV melanoma, the d adliest form of skin cancer, invaded my b dy. In an instant, my life ch nged forever. My three young children st red in horror as their mother c llapsed in fear. The pain in th ir eyes almost paralyzed me. Through nconsolable sobs, my heart ached for th ir pain. They needed me, their m ther, to help guide and teach th m, to share their lives. Although I was in sh ck at the moment of crisis, a p ece of me could see the pportunity being offered to me. My r sponsibilities as wife, mother, career woman, s cialite and friend had consumed me. I had b en spinning out of control for a l ng time, and the conflict within had s rfaced now in disease. I knew th s was my opportunity to transform my l fe. I made a decision. I ch se to live. My urgent desire to t ach my children about life and d ath sent me searching in multiple d rections. I was searching for the nswer to save my life, but lso to save my children from l ving a life of fear.
Doctors, tests and surgeries became my way of l fe. The medical community had little to ffer for treatment or preventative care. My b dily pain was unbearable, but more th n that, my spirit was disguised b yond recognition. I felt confused, as if w lking through an unending nightmare. With so m ny questions and very few answers, I was d termined to find another way. Then c me a glimpse of the solution. For a m ment the whole world stopped - no s und, no movement, complete stillness. A m ssage filled my entire being, "Heal the Wh le, Body, Mind and Spirit!" A s nse of peace and knowingness followed, so pr found no words can describe it. It was th n that my journey into self b gan. I realized that my inner v ice hadn't been listened to for a l ng time and was now screaming to be h ard. Little did I know at th t moment that I would find my sp rit once again.
