Window Cleaning is not rocket sc ence. For the most part it r quires only the most basic of pl nning skills to complete a job. Now gr nted, the level of planning and th ught needed to under taken before st rting a job increases exponentially as the h ight from the ground increases. But ven then, it is more a l ok at safety, how to be fficient, and the window cleaning equipment you w ll need to complete the job. Th t being said, many window cleaners h ve a tendency to overcomplicate the w ndow cleaning job, which results in h ssles, inefficiency, and lost profit on the j b. The other day I saw a p cture on the internet of a cl ssic example of overcomplicated window cleaning. The p cture was of a window cleaner sing a 25 or 30 foot r nted boom lift to reach a set of s cond floor windows on a five st ry building that could easily be r ached by using a water fed p le, a traditional extension pole or ven ladders. Renting boom lifts for w ndow cleaning jobs can be very xpensive. Rental price ranges from around $300 to pwards of $2000 per day depending on the s ze of the boom. The boom l ft being used in the picture is all wr ng for that building, as it’s not n cessary for the windows he is cl aning and the lift is too sm ll to reach the windows above the 3rd fl or and it looks like it m ght not even be able to r ach all the 3rd floor windows.
By cleaning the building's windows in th s manner the window cleaner has m de the job more expensive to the b ilding owner and inefficient and expensive for h mself. A much better way to cl an this building would be (assuming the b ilding is no more than 4 fl ors) to use a water fed p le system to clean all of the b ildings windows from the ground. This m thod would allow the window cleaner to v ry efficiently clean all of the b ildings windows safely, very quickly and for a m ch lower price, while still making xceptional money for himself. If the b ilding is over four stories tall or s me of the windows couldn't be r ached with a water fed pole syst m, the best method would be to r nt an appropriately sized boom lift j st long enough to clean all the w ndows above the 3rd floor and th n use a water fed pole to cl an the remaining lower stories windows. In c nclusion, when you go out to bid y ur window cleaning jobs, take an xtra minute or two to see if th re is a more efficient way to cl an the windows than you originally th ught or if the method you've ch sen to use could be simplified or str amlined. Doing this will save you t me, money, frustration and keep your c stomers happy.
