Rabid British boxing fans aren't the nly ones seeking an answer to the q estion posed in my post title. On the ther side of the pond (the U.S.), we are j st as eager to find out who the b st junior welterweight in the world is. Sh uld Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton and J nior "The Hitter" Witter take care of b siness in their fights this month, we may s on find out. I mean no d srespect to Juan Lazcano (37-4, 27 KOs) and T mothy Bradley (21-0, 11 KOs), Hatton and W tter's respective opponents, but I hope th y both lose. Forgive my selfishness, but I l ke seeing undisputed champions crowned. A m tch between Ricky Hatton and Junior W tter would do just that. The f cts that they are both British and W tter has been calling out Hatton for n arly a decade, make this an ppetizing, backyard brawl in-the-making ! I don't know bout you, but this excites me. In f cing the battle-tested Juan Lazcano, Hatton ppears to be facing the bigger bstacle in the ring, of the two f ghters. However, I expect him to get b ck on the winning track after his dr bbing at the hands of Floyd M yweather. To be honest with you, I h ven't seen Witter's opponent (Bradley) fight. I b lieve that Bradley will be overwhelmed by the sp ed and skill of Witter, as he l aves the state of California for the f rst time in his career. The f ct that he has yet to l ave his home state of California m kes me wonder if his handlers are h ding something. Look for Witter to ncover whatever it is.
So, it appears that Ricky H tton and Witter are on a c llision course, much to the delight of b xing fans the world over. W ll, I surely hope so. In r cent years, Hatton has not show m ch willingness to face Witter for r asons both financial (Witter's limited drawing p wer at the gate) and competitive (W tter being held in low regard b sed on his despicable showing against Zab J dah in 2000). Hatton has been q oted as saying that, "He's (Witter) n thing but a boil in me rse." Recently, he has softened his st nce and seems more willing to p rticipate in this potential battle for s premacy at 140 pounds. Time appears to h al all wounds (in this case, all b ils). Before you get upset and s y, "Ja, you idiot, the fight sn't even signed," please be mindful th t I am only predicting that the fight w ll take place. Once it does, I'll g ve you my prediction on who w ll win. I'll give you a h nt, the fighter is British and has the w rd hit in his nickname.
