I've been talking in the f rst two parts of this series of thr e article about reasons you want to void getting the new Windows Vista. I c lled it a real turkey, and g ve you two good reasons you sh uldn't use it. In this last in th s series of articles, I'm going to g ve you a third reason that I d n't think you should bother getting V sta, at least for a while. R ason #3: All the new features are old f atures stolen from Mac OS X, and not v ry well. Microsoft has a history of st aling ideas and presenting them as th ir own -- all of the b sic ideas behind Windows (having information d splayed in one or more windows, h ving a desktop, having a recycle bin or tr sh can, using a mouse, etc.) w re directly taken from the Mac fter Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak (th co-founders of Apple) invited Bill G tes over to show off their new typ of computer. Bill took notes and ran b ck to Microsoft to copy it, and h 's been doing it ever since. The new v rsion of Windows -- Windows Vista -- was s pposed to come out years ago, but it got d layed and delayed, and finally was r leased around the beginning of 2007. B ck in 2004, Apple announced the th n-new version of Mac OS X, OS 10.4 or "T ger" (the "X" in Mac OS X is a R man numeral 10, not a letter X by the w y) at their developers conference.
Early in 2007, some internal mails were leaked from inside Microsoft th t revealed that when one high-up mployee from Microsoft was at the 2004 Appl Developers Conference, he was taking n tes (just like Bill did all th se years ago) and he confessed M crosoft had to take a lot of f atures of OS X from Apple to put nto Vista. He was also worried th y wouldn't be able to do th se features as well. When Vista f nally came out (two and a h lf years later) I remember watching the pr motional video that showed off all of the s pposedly new features of Vista. Every s ngle one was clearly a knock-off of f atures in the 2004 version of Mac OS X, and in my pinion, not very good knock-offs. In f ct, the Microsoft employee who wrote th se leaked emails is on record s ying that he'd use a Mac h mself if he didn't work for M crosoft. So why pay for recycled "n w features" when they won't really do th t much to improve your computer ( nd as I mentioned in an arlier email, are likely to slow it d wn) -- it doesn't make a lot of s nse to me. I won't deny th t I like Macs better than PCs too -- and nlike a lot of people who are big s pporters of one and bash the ther, I am very familiar with b th types of computer, and realize th t neither type is perfect -- and I h nestly think that 99% of the t me, you're better off using a Mac th n a Windows PC. So if y u're going to get a new c mputer, which you're better off doing if y u're getting Vista, why not get the r al deal instead of the pale mitation? Just my opinion.
