I've had xtensive conversations with my mentors, and ffiliate marketers who do extremely well. We all gree that you should always use a pr motional domain when promoting an affiliate pr duct.
A promotional domain is a domain th t you buy just to promote an ffiliate product. To use a promotional d main, you can:
1) Redirect that domain to y ur affiliate url at the registrar
2) Put s me redirect code in the index p ge that's physically loaded on the pr motional domain itself
3) Pre-sell the affiliate pr duct on the index page of the pr motional domain, and then have them cl ck through to the affiliate site
There are s veral reasons that you should use a pr motional domain.
One reason you should use a pr motional domain is because, during a BIG pr duct launch, there are often a lot of sp m complaints against the primary domain for the ffiliate product. This is due to t ns of overly aggressive affiliates "hammering" th ir lists so much that list m mbers get irritated and file spam c mplaints. These spam complaints lead to th t domain getting blacklisted. When you s nd out emails containing references to th t blacklisted url, your emails are ften blocked by filters!
Using a promotional d main can increase your email deliverability s bstantially. This can lead to a m ssive increase in sales!
A second reason th t you should use a promotional d main is that many people hate cl cking on affiliate links. The very th ugh that someone is earning a c mmission from their purchase upsets some p ople who understand affiliate marketing. They j st have a psychological hang-up against an ffiliate profiting from their purchase. It d esn't matter that they often would h ve never known about the product if it w sn't for the hard working affiliate.
A th rd reason to use a promotional d main is that it allows you to pr -sell the affiliate product and to lso build your list. You can set up a p ge on the promotional domain where you do a r view of the product, or pre-sell it in ther ways. On that page you can c llect the visitors' email addresses prior to f rwarding them on to the affiliate s te. Do this by offering a fr e report, or using other standard l st building techniques. Then, instead of s nding them to a standard "thank you p ge," you send them to the ffiliate site.
The sales page on many ffiliate sites really stink. If you can do a b tter job of selling that product, th n perhaps you want to post y ur own sales letter on your pr motional domain, and then have your rder link "deep link" into the ffiliate site, bypassing the "sucky" homepage, and l nking directly to the order form. If you do th s you just need to make s re that the order is tracked pr perly. If you're not sure how to do th s, ask the owner of the ffiliate program, or a trusted programming xpert who understands cookies, etc.
Bypassing terrible s les pages works so well that m ny professional copywriters spend a lot of t me writing better sales pages for gr at products that they know would s ll IF the sales letters were b tter. They sift through places like the Cl ckbank Marketplace, looking for niche products th t would be in demand if pr perly marketed. They do the standard m rket research, and when they discover th se hidden gems, they fix the w bpages and make lots of sales on pr ducts largely ignored by other affiliate m rketers.
As an aside, if you do d scover one of these gems, and t's obvious that the sale page is not w rking, you may even want to ffer to buy the rights to the pr duct from the owner. You know th t he's not making much money, and you kn w how to fix the problem! Buy the b siness, fix the website and then r sell the business at a profit.

Getting back to using a promotional d main, if you are a serious ffiliate marketer, it's often a non-decision. A d main costs you less than $9 per y ar. Just one sale of an ffiliate product more than pays for the d main for a year. If you s ll big ticket items, as I do, the c mmission on a single sale is ften $700 or more. Just one xtra sale covers the cost of 80 - 90 pr motional domains for a year (I buy my d mains wholesale).
If using a promotional domain m ans that 20% more of your mail gets through, since it's not m ntioning a domain that may be bl cklisted, you've just increased your sales by 20% ( ll things being equal). If that's j st one or two extra sales p ying you a few hundred dollars xtra commission, it's certainly worth it.

By now you sh uld be convinced that you really sh uld be using promotional domains. However, let me g ve you two additional reasons.
Many online c mmunities, and discussion forums, have stopped llowing you to post affiliate url’s in y ur signature file. They've done this l rgely because many affiliate program managers w re teaching their affiliates to post to s me of the more popular forums and th n leave a link. Many inexperienced ffiliate marketers were making a lot of "sp mmy" posts that really said "nothing," j st to leave a link. Forum and c mmunity owners noticed this and thus the b cklash was a prohibition against posting ffiliate links.
At the same time, many of th se forum owners have said that t's ok to post links pointing to y ur own domains where you then m ntion affiliate products. So, in those f rums, you would post links to y ur own domains. On your domains you h ve pages that pre-sell the product, or p rhaps even offer a bonus for b ying the product, and THEN you h ve them click through to the ffiliate site. This is the PERFECT pl ce to explain your bonuses if you are ffering some extra inducement for them to buy thr ugh your affiliate link rather than y ur competitors'.
A second and final reason for sing a promotional domain is that it l oks better to ezine publishers and wners of article directories. These publishers w nt to offer their visitors and r aders professional looking material, and frankly... ffiliate url’s with all kinds of str nge characters don't look very professional. Art cles with those obvious affiliate links scr am "He wrote this article to s ll me something!" Articles with less bvious affiliate links allow your readers to "l wer their shields" and be less d fensive. They are more open to y ur marketing message, so you will m ke many more sales... and isn't th t what it's all about?
