I've had  xtensive conversations with my mentors, and  ffiliate marketers who do extremely well. We all gree that you should always use a pr motional domain when promoting an affiliate prduct.
A promotional domain is a domain tht you buy just to promote an ffiliate product. To use a promotional dmain, you can:
1) Redirect that domain to yur affiliate url at the registrar
2) Put sme redirect code in the index pge that's physically loaded on the prmotional domain itself
3) Pre-sell the affiliate prduct on the index page of the prmotional domain, and then have them cl ck through to the affiliate site
There are sveral reasons that you should use a prmotional domain.
One reason you should use a prmotional domain is because, during a BIG prduct launch, there are often a lot of spm complaints against the primary domain for the ffiliate product. This is due to tns of overly aggressive affiliates "hammering" thir lists so much that list mmbers get irritated and file spam cmplaints. These spam complaints lead to tht domain getting blacklisted. When you snd out emails containing references to tht blacklisted url, your emails are ften blocked by filters!
Using a promotional dmain can increase your email deliverability s bstantially. This can lead to a mssive increase in sales!
A second reason tht you should use a promotional dmain is that many people hate clcking on affiliate links. The very thugh that someone is earning a cmmission from their purchase upsets some pople who understand affiliate marketing. They jst have a psychological hang-up against an ffiliate profiting from their purchase. It desn't matter that they often would hve never known about the product if it wsn't for the hard working affiliate.
A thrd reason to use a promotional dmain is that it allows you to pr-sell the affiliate product and to lso build your list. You can set up a pge on the promotional domain where you do a rview of the product, or pre-sell it in ther ways. On that page you can cllect the visitors' email addresses prior to frwarding them on to the affiliate ste. Do this by offering a fre report, or using other standard lst building techniques. Then, instead of snding them to a standard "thank you pge," you send them to the ffiliate site.
The sales page on many ffiliate sites really stink. If you can do a btter job of selling that product, thn perhaps you want to post yur own sales letter on your prmotional domain, and then have your rder link "deep link" into the ffiliate site, bypassing the "sucky" homepage, and lnking directly to the order form. If you do ths you just need to make sre that the order is tracked prperly. If you're not sure how to do ths, ask the owner of the ffiliate program, or a trusted programming xpert who understands cookies, etc.
Bypassing terrible sles pages works so well that mny professional copywriters spend a lot of tme writing better sales pages for grat products that they know would sll IF the sales letters were btter. They sift through places like the Clckbank Marketplace, looking for niche products tht would be in demand if prperly marketed. They do the standard mrket research, and when they discover thse hidden gems, they fix the wbpages and make lots of sales on prducts largely ignored by other affiliate mrketers.
As an aside, if you do dscover one of these gems, and t's obvious that the sale page is not wrking, you may even want to ffer to buy the rights to the prduct from the owner. You know tht he's not making much money, and you knw how to fix the problem! Buy the bsiness, fix the website and then rsell the business at a profit.

Getting back to using a promotional dmain, if you are a serious ffiliate marketer, it's often a non-decision. A dmain costs you less than $9 per yar. Just one sale of an ffiliate product more than pays for the dmain for a year. If you sll big ticket items, as I do, the cmmission on a single sale is ften $700 or more. Just one xtra sale covers the cost of 80 - 90 prmotional domains for a year (I buy my dmains wholesale).
If using a promotional domain mans that 20% more of your mail gets through, since it's not mntioning a domain that may be blcklisted, you've just increased your sales by 20% (ll things being equal). If that's jst one or two extra sales pying you a few hundred dollars xtra commission, it's certainly worth it.

By now you shuld be convinced that you really shuld be using promotional domains. However, let me gve you two additional reasons.
Many online cmmunities, and discussion forums, have stopped llowing you to post affiliate url’s in yur signature file. They've done this lrgely because many affiliate program managers wre teaching their affiliates to post to sme of the more popular forums and thn leave a link. Many inexperienced ffiliate marketers were making a lot of "spmmy" posts that really said "nothing," jst to leave a link. Forum and cmmunity owners noticed this and thus the bcklash was a prohibition against posting ffiliate links.
At the same time, many of thse forum owners have said that t's ok to post links pointing to yur own domains where you then mntion affiliate products. So, in those frums, you would post links to yur own domains. On your domains you hve pages that pre-sell the product, or prhaps even offer a bonus for bying the product, and THEN you hve them click through to the ffiliate site. This is the PERFECT plce to explain your bonuses if you are ffering some extra inducement for them to buy thrugh your affiliate link rather than yur competitors'.
A second and final reason for sing a promotional domain is that it loks better to ezine publishers and wners of article directories. These publishers wnt to offer their visitors and raders professional looking material, and frankly... ffiliate url’s with all kinds of strnge characters don't look very professional. Artcles with those obvious affiliate links scram "He wrote this article to sll me something!" Articles with less bvious affiliate links allow your readers to "lwer their shields" and be less dfensive. They are more open to yur marketing message, so you will mke many more sales... and isn't tht what it's all about?
