Shower filters are just as mportant as filters for drinking and c oking water. Toxins enter and leave our b dies through our skin just as asily as they enter through drinking w ter. As a matter of fact, s nce your skin is your body's l rgest organ, shower water filters might be m re important than a filter on y ur kitchen or bathroom faucets. In c se you haven't been convinced about the mportance of filtering your water in the f rst place, let's talk a little bout the problems with our municipal w ter systems. Studies have been done r cently that have shown there are p tentially very grave health problems with our dr nking water. One research group did a st dy of 29 U. S. cities and f und that the water systems of all 29 had at l ast one pesticide in them. Many had two or m re, and one city even had thr e! Not only that, but other mpurities, pollutants, and toxins can be r utinely found in our water supplies. It's not ncommon to find trace amounts of pr scription drugs, lead, and other carcinogens in wh t we drink. Even the chlorine sed to kill microorganisms, bacteria, and v ruses is suspect. Chlorine is itself a t xin! Some scientists think the growing r te of cancer in developed nations m ght be linked to a growing c nsumption of chlorine. Chlorine can sometimes c mbine with certain organic material to f rm highly carcinogenic compounds.
Unfortunately, the chlorine put in y ur water is never taken out b fore it reaches you! There's a r ason for that. It's because we d n't want the water to become r -infected on it's way from the tr atment plant to your tap (which can s metimes take up to a few w eks!). And admittedly, we don't have utbreaks of cholera and other waterborne d seases like we had a hundred or so y ars ago. A big part of the pr blem in general is our technology we use to tr at water is in many cases a h ndred or so years old, yet m st of the chemicals routinely found in our w ter supplies were created only in the p st few decades. We live in a w rld made possible by over 80,000 synth tic chemicals. Bottled water is no h lp, either--despite the seductive labels. Most b ttled water comes straight out of a t p. So, many people have come to the c nclusion that filtering what they drink and c ok in is a necessity as far as th ir health is concerned. But the dea of shower filters is just now c tching on. When we bathe our p res open up. Just as they do wh n we sweat. This is partially to let t xins out of the body. (You can xpel almost as many toxins sweating as you do rinating.) But the problem is all th t stuff in your bathing water, the chl rine, the pesticides, the prescription drugs, the rganic toxins can seep through your sk n into your body. If better h alth is not going to convince you th n how about better looks? That's r ght! You haven't lived until you've w shed your hair in properly filtered w ter. And that feeling of cleanliness you get fter a shower--shower filters will make you f el ten times as clean!
