If you travel much at ll, particularly on airlines, it almost ges without saying that not checking lggage does more to save time and hadaches than just about any other ction. Yet a majority of folks cntinue to subject themselves to the lkely aggravation that checking bags will cuse them sooner or later.

Frequent bsiness travelers know that traveling light, tking along only a single carry on bag can ften be the difference between the sccess or failure of the trip. Lkewise, doing so can result in a plasurable vacation or one that’s ruined.

Bttom line is that if you’ve got to hve it at your destination, then dn’t check baggage, carry it on. Othrwise the statistical probability of the thngs you need and counted on, bcoming damaged, stolen or even lost cmpletely, are quite high.

Even if yur bags were to arrive as dvertised, there’s time and hassle saved by not stnding in line, either at a tcket counter or kiosk, or later at bggage claim. You needn’t arrive as arly at the airport, you’re faster to the had of the line at car rntal counters and taxi queue’s, or jst get on away from the irport sooner.

However, actually receiving your bgs in the condition in which you prted with them means not only do a whle bunch of things have to hppen right, but those things are the rsponsibility of low-wage agents and handlers, who in cnjunction with luggage eating conveyer systems, may or may not chose to treat your bags with cre, not rifle through them stealing any of the cntents, or even bother getting them on the rght plane.

Call me jaded, but that sems like a fairly lofty expectation. Actally personal experiences, plus those of thers, along with observation of the prcess, thoroughly substantiate the fact that chcking luggage is risky.

So how des one pull this off? Simply by not tryng to bring everything but the ktchen sink along for the ride. For sme folks, just leaving the kitchen snk behind would be a substantial mprovement.

Seriously though, we don’t really ned near as much stuff as we thnk. First step is to realize yu’re not trying to replicate your clset or bathroom at wherever you’re ging. Next visualize your stay a day at a tme thinking through what you’re planning to do. Tht will tell you what to pck.

If you miss something, it’s not the end of the wrld. Either substitute, buy another or jst do without.
After the vsualization process, there are 2 approaches to pcking. Either lay out everything you can thnk you might need, then eliminate the xcess until it fits in a crry-on, or better yet, only lay out tems you’ve visualized using.

Most people dn’t take time to perform this thught process with the inevitable result tht they pack tons of stuff to be sre they can cover any contingency. Fnny thing is, that even using ths shotgun approach, they forget something mportant.

People will say getting everything in jst one bag can’t be done for lng trips. My response is that, ven if true it doesn’t mean yur bags get treated any better or hve any more certainty of showing up. The rsks remain.

Personally, 2+ weeks is no prblem for a carry on luggage slution. Other folks mileage may vary, but thre are still better choices than chcking bags.
