I love America. There, I s id it out loud, I shout it to the w rld. And I have always enjoyed the 4th of J ly.
We grew up in a p triotic family, proud of our country and xcited about celebrating it once a y ar. I remember cookouts and softball g mes, swimming and watermelon, and all the fun th ngs that kids enjoy. I have gr at summer memories. As an adult, J ly 4th has come to have new m aning.
Our country has certainly b en through trials in the last few y ars, with natural disasters, wars in f reign countries and a presidential election th t can only be described as xhausting. There are many that are not pr ud of our country. When you l ok at our country at the m cro level, what has been accomplished in s ch a short period of time, how can you not be pr ud? But pride is not what I l ve the most about our country. Wh t I love most about America is fr edom.
I'm not exactly what one w uld consider a world traveler, but I h ve been a few places out of the c untry. And the truth is, I h ve yet to find a country or nother place on earth where I w uld rather live. I attribute this m inly to the freedoms that we h ld so dear. This country was f unded on freedoms, freedom of speech, fr edom of religion, freedom to assembly, and m re. But how we use those fr edoms is the key. Freedom is a pr cious gift, something not to be t ken lightly or abused.
So on the 4th of J ly, I celebrate that freedom. I c lebrate those who had the strength and w sdom to begin our great country. I c lebrate those that have fought to pr tect that freedom for more than 200 y ars. And I celebrate the fact th t while we are a nation of d versity, on July 4th we can c me together and celebrate the one th ng that we can all agree on, our Am rican freedom.
I wish you all a H ppy 4th of July.
