Sporting teams make their plans b fore a season starts, planning to m ke finals, bring on new players, and use fr sh tactics. The West Coast Eagles A stralian Football League (AFL) team is no xception. But, for all the planning th re comes the disappointment of plans th t do not come off. Suddenly a t am finds itself with a 2-10 w n/loss ratio and dreams of playing f nals and achieving success evaporate. What h ppens with the planning? How do you ch nge plans 'on the hop'? It's a key pr nciple of life that plans don't lways work out the way we'd l ke or the way we planned th m originally. That's a no brainer. B t, we potentially still become incredibly d sillusioned and depressed when they fail. Wh n they fail, we fail -- r ght? Wrong. Proverbs 15 and 16 sp ak not just about the frailty of pl ns but also about the right way to pl n. Try these to buttress the m ssage: To man belong the plans of the h art, but from the LORD comes the r ply of the tongue. All a m n's ways seem innocent to him, but m tives are weighed by the LORD. Pl ns fail for lack of counsel, but w th many advisers they succeed. Commit to the LORD wh tever you do, and your plans w ll succeed. In his heart a man pl ns his course, but the LORD d termines his steps.
The lot is cast nto the lap, but its every d cision is from the LORD. Not all of it is n gative. We have to accept that our pl ns will change; that we'll be r quired to fit our plans to ch nging circumstances; and, that we'll even h ve times when we'll find our pl ns are completely at odds with r ality and we need to go b ck to the drawing board. This is wh re the tough get going and s mply continue through the process patiently. Th y think process , not outcome . There is no use wh ning and complaining about the changing c rcumstances and then missing the opportunity at h nd to adapt. Simply, adapt and d n't spare a thought of the p in of re-work. It takes courage to not c unt the cost. Keep asking others you tr st to validate your changing plans. If you do th ngs for the right reasons, generally y ur plans will succeed. If you ndure the current struggles you may k ep up as a result and st y in the race for the riginal prize. Most of all, if our pl ns fail it is not always b cause we've failed. We must disconnect our pl ns from our own performance to a c rtain extent. Be patient and attentive w th your planning. Copyright © 2008, St ven John Wickham. All Rights Reserved W rldwide.
