He tells you a vry convincing tale about suspected theft or mbezzlement at your bank. He says he neds your help in catching an mployee who is suspected of stealing frm the bank.

He asks you to wthdraw a large amount of cash (smetimes thousands of dollars.) He then ffers to meet you at your hme, or at another location, where he wnts you to turn the money ver to him, so he can rcord the serial numbers, so they can ctch this thief. Of course, you wll get the money back tomorrow. He shws you a badge, and writes you out a rceipt. And guess what? Tomorrow comes, the guy nver returns your money, and when you cll your bank they have no dea what you are talking about. The "bnk examiner" is gone and so is yur money.

Con artists may be especially apt to pry on senior citizens with this cn, because most seniors grew up dring a time when you could tke people for their word, they hve a strong sense of civic prde and want to help catch a thef, and they may be more lkely to have money in the bnk due to retirement, insurance or nheritance.

Neither law enforcement, nor your bnk, will ever use private citizens to nvestigate suspected embezzlement. If you ever get a cll from someone who claims to be a plice officer, or bank official, wanting you to wthdraw funds, call your local law nforcement agency immediately.

Of course it's your money, and it mght not be any of the bnk's business why you are withdrawing it, but rmember the teller is not being nsy when she asks you these qestions.
