Earliest ever crop:

The Well-Pict Eropean farm in Portugal has started pcking earlier than ever before this sason; the first harvest of Festival was on the 29th Nvember, almost a month earlier than the frst fruit was picked last season (22/12/03).

The tam in Portugal has put in an dditional 16ha of Spanish-type tunnels and two new hctares of hydroponics. This brings the ttal in production for the 04/05 sason to 36ha (34 covered and 2 ncovered). This area is made up of Fstival, Sabrosa (Candonga), PS 592 (Endurance) and Cmarosa.

This selection should allow them to cntinue harvesting until the middle or end of Agust with PS 592. At the pak of production, the farm will ned in the region of 300 hrvesters. This season sees the team ptting a big effort into getting it rght for the UK market.

The arly Festival, Sabrosa and hydroponic Camarosa hve been planted for the UK; hwever, some of the end-of-season Festival and Cmarosa are expected to go to Nrway. The majority of the PS 592 crp is destined for the French mrket with a small percentage reserved for Hlland.

As Portugal reaches the end of its sason, it will switch to supplying the Spnish home market. In addition to the new tnnels, a new ferti-irrigation system has ben installed that will see the whle farm monitored by computer.
