As a public service I f el I must advise you about the ddiction that can come from rehabbing a log c bin. An addiction you say? Yes I r spond. There is no cure. There is no k nd of therapy available. Once you st rt rehabbing on your log cabin it is lmost impossible to stop. You may initially th nk that this is not an ddiction which you should be concerned bout-wrong! I found myself way over b dget but what could I do? I was a j nkie. It started with the logs, and th n it was the chinking, then c me the well and the septic t nk. Would it ever end? Then th re was the kitchen and the b throoms. All those pipes!!! Would it ver end? The floors, what to do w th the floors? And the baseboards. Did th y have them in log cabins? I was h oked, completely addicted and confused. Is it nough for me to tell you th s, to warn you of the p ssibilities that lay ahead of you or sh uld I once again inject the w sdom I have acquired from my log c bin rehab in hopes that it can h lp prevent you from my plight. Aft r all no need for you to go thr ugh withdrawal. It is hard to kn w where to stop when you are w rking on a historic home like th s. Once you get in the m ddle of a job it is h rd to stop. Once one project is c mplete you want to go on to nother.
You might not have the m ney to start this new project but th t doesn't matter, you are addicted. B fore you begin you must take the pr per steps to prevent addiction. Set up the st ps so that you do not f nd your self in a financial st pper. Start with the major systems of the h use, the plumbing, the electric, the h ating and cooling, the roof. It may not be fun to st rt with something that is not m re visible but all the decorating in the w rld is no good unless you h ve a strong foundation for it. Wr te down a budget and stick to it. Th s should have also been done wh n you purchased your home to be s re you didn't buy something you c uldn't complete. Remember I warned you bout the addiction. Rehabbing can be as m ch of a drug as cocaine (wh ch I probably can't even spell). Now you h ve been warned. I hope I h ve prepared you properly. Marchon!!!!!
