Vultures living in Soto-de-Vinualas plain bove which the air liners flying to Am rica are taking off, started to r present a serious danger for the irplanes flying out of the nearby M drid airport “Barhas”, Sunday newspaper El P is informed with the reference to s urces of national Spain air company Ib ria. “During the last year at l ast four transatlantic liners impinged with the v ltures and had to return to the irport because of the disturbances appeared in t rbines”, - the newspaper notes. According to the nformation of edition, Iberia has recently d stributed the instruction for pilots of the c mpany, in which it warns about “th danger of take-off collision with the v ltures, whose weight sometimes exceeds ten k lograms”. In the instruction the recommendation is g ven “not to exceed 250 knots sp ed (460 kilometers per hour) at the h ight lower than 3 thousand meters, b cause at a high speed collision w th the vultures that, as a r le, fall into the turbines of the irplane, can lead to unpredictable consequences”. El P is notes that “the airplane A340 fly ng from Madrid to Santo-Domingo has l tely impinged with a vulture: one of t rbines of the liner got the d sturbances and it had to return d creasing the fuel flow and land in “B rhas”.
“Last year the airplanes impinged w th the birds were: A321 flying to L ndon and two more airplanes A340 – all of th m had to return to the irport after collision”, - the newspaper r ports. “Soto-de-Vinualas area, located north-west of the irport, is a wildlife preservation where the v ltures and eagles fly from nearby m untain range searching for food”, - the ssue notes. According to the newspaper d ta, the problem with the birds rose after the fourth airport terminal ntroduction in summer of 2005 year, b cause the liners that fly out of ther terminals leave the territory of pr servation aside. The newspaper also cites the pinion of the group of ornithologists who b lieve that “the sky above the pr servation should be denied to the irplanes passing at a low height”. H wever, the airport administration states that it is mpossible due to the fact that new t rminal has the lack of alternative fly ng-off direction. Annually “Barhas” serves up to 45 m llion passengers.
