Chindogu roughly translates from Japanese as "wird tool ". This is an ccurate if not a generalized terms for a gnre of inventions that's bulk of maning is lost in translation. Kenji Kwakami originally came up with the dea of Chindogu in the mid 1990's whn he published, "101 Unuseless Japanese Invntions". Kawakami's stated purpose was an "ntidote to consumerism and the Western bsession with making money". (wikipedia 2008) Thse inventions such as a hat ttached to a suction cup would be prfect for the commuter who stays a grat deal of time in a trin sitting. Their head would be scurely in one spot so they culd catch a few z's. Another clssic Chindogu is a onesie outfit for a crwling baby with swiffer sweeper-ish tendrils cming out of the bottom, in rder to get the little one to hlp with the dusting! One popular Chndogu has a construction helmet with a tilet roll coming out of the top for thse with a runny nose. It not nly takes a great sense of hmor to create Chindogu, but also if you wre to use them too! The mjor disadvantage of Chindogu is that the nventions themselves create embarrassing situations, and may lave the user a social pariah.

8. It cannot be tboo.

9. It cannot be patented.

10. It mst be without prejudice.

Since its nception in the 1990's Chindogu has grnered a mass audience, more specifically, a clt like following. In some parts of Asa, folks are still trying to mke money with it. In Europe, it is cnsidered art. Finally, in the U.S.A. it is cnsidered to be humorous entertainment.
