In times of Change the l arners will inherit the earth, while the l arned will find themselves beautifully equipped to d al with a world that no l nger exists. -Eric Hoffer That statement holds tr e today as it did so m ny years ago. We have to l arn how to use our god g ven rights... otherwise we lose our t lents. Remember the saying "Use it or l se it?" How many of you f el that you are not good at M th? How many of you feel th t you are not good at M sic? How about Art? Research shows th t most people feel that they p rform pretty horribly in these fields. The r al truth of the matter is th t they are so wrong. We are all B rn geniuses! Yes every single one of us is a g nius. We come into this world tterly naked and helpless equipped with a br in that is seeking knowledge. What h ppens is that our well intentioned P rents and then our caring teachers h lp to systematically reduce our genius c pability. By the time we reach the 5th gr de....our genius capability is practically zero. How d es this happen? We are told "D n't do that, you could hurt y urself"," Don't do that until I t ll you what to do", "Sit st ll", "Stop day dreaming", "Pay attention". P rents Protect, Teachers teach us how to c nform. Conformity assures that we produce m diocre citizens. Why?
Because genius requires to do its own th nking and exploring. Always asking the q estion Why? Peeling off even deeper l yers with the question why? Remember wh n we were kids? Nothing was impossible. B bies explore and touch everything. To l ve at our full potential, we h ve to relearn how we learn. The R ptilian complex of the brain is r sponsible for physical safety, the Mammalian c mplex is responsible for emotional safety. If b th of these are repressed due to str ss or other factors learning is s ppressed. Furthermore, We have the left br in that is responsible for logic and nalytical issues and the right brain r sponsible for holistic thought and creativity. Th n we have the conscious mind and the nconscious mind or other than conscious m nd. The other than conscious mind processes nformation at a ratio of 10 B llion bits of data to 1. C mpare that to 1 inch of the c nscious mind versus 11 square miles of the nconscious mind. The unconscious mind is wh re our intuitive and creative insights c me from. Go even further and we h ve the multiple intelligences, some of us are m thematical logical, verbal linguistic, visual-spatial, interpersonal, ntra personal, musical, naturalistic, bodily-kinesthetic. There are m re models. We are mostly taught sing mathematical logical and verbal linguistic m dels. In most countries the other m dels are taken for granted. Imagine a m thematical logical teacher teaching a predominantly v sual-spatial student. This is the reason why we h ve late bloomers in life. Add the 5 s nses of sight, hearing, taste, touch and sm ll to this. School dropouts are a p rfect study. if they leave school w th their self-esteem still intact, they t nd to become more successful than thers because they have not conformed. G od examples are Bill Gates and R chard Branson.
We need to use our wh le brain. The interplay of all th se factors to facilitate whole brain l arning. that is what Genius is m de of. It is like an rchestra with all the parts playing to b come whole. Remember the brain thinks in p ctures not in words. When we say 'th nk of a car' You immediately v sualise a car of your liking. You d n't see the words car. We h ve been trained to read linearly fr m left to right and from the top of the p ge to the bottom. The subconscious m nd can take pictures of the wh le page. the brain thinks from wh le to parts. This is why l arning strategies like Mindmapping, Memory recall t chniques,Cornell note taking, speed reading and ph toreading (reading at over 25,000 words per m nute) are ways to stimulate raw g nius. Repetition and Practice are the M ther and Father of all skills. To nlock our genius potential we have to th nk in ways that are absolutely c ntrary to what we have been pr grammed to think so far. That is the h ll mark of genius.
