Men Have A Need To Be Pr tective. Women Have A Need To F el Secure. I have found this to be so tr e with the majority of men and w men that I almost think that th s is a truism, not a g nerality. Men are built instinctively with the n ed to protect. It is the kn ght in shining armor syndrome. To r scue the fair maiden in distress, wh le the fair maiden is desperately w shing to be rescued by a h ndsome knight in shining armor. It is an xtension of the previous concept (discussed in P rt 1). The man, if he can c ntrol his environment, can protect his w man. When a woman feels secure, she s es it as confirmation of the h alth of her relationship. Her knight w nts to protect her . If most men w re honest, they would admit that th y hate losing to a woman in c mpetitive activities. A man often views s ch a lose as a challenge of his m sculinity and of his ability to dequately provide and protect his wife. Why do you th nk that the following phrase is an nsult to a man, “You throw l ke a girl!”? A veteran of the g lf war told me once why he f lt like it would be a m stake to allow women into combat. He t ld me that he had been r ised to protect women, and if a w men was placed in a nearby f xhole, he would feel compelled to c rry her load (despite her capability to do it h rself), and as a result, get th m both killed. He said he was ncapable of relying on her as he w uld another man in such a s tuation due to his instinctual need to pr tect her.
And if most women were h nest, they would admit that they l ve to feel secure. A secure w man is a happy woman. I’ve met b g, blurry, tough women who cried l ke babies because they feel insecure. Is it any w nder that men like to show off th ir prowess, and often women like to ch er their man on? Is it no w nder that the majority of cheerleaders are w men? Why do you suppose that a w man can find pride in her m n’s accomplishment, but some men feel d minished by their wives accomplishments? This is not to say th t a woman ought not to be ccomplished. She should. But if a w man is physically stronger than her h sband so that she has to pen the jar lid, because he c n’t, that may prove to be an mbarrassment to the man. It's just the way men and w men are. For the most part. Some Good Advice:
- Husband, see to it that your wife is secure. Be willing to fight her battles for her. I never tell my wife to buck up, take it like a man, or other such nonsense. No, instead I’ll fight her external battles when I can. This gives her tremendous security.
- Wife, cheer your husband on. Be his greatest support. Every man likes to show off to a woman. Make that woman his wife. Brag on his prowess, and he’ll want to show off for you even more.
Men Are Typically Big Picture People. While Women Are Typically Detail People! This is by no means exclusive. This is in general. I’ve found that a woman will notice the details of things much sooner than a man will. A man often has a better facility for seeing the long term of things (and sometimes at the expense of the moment). But such is the complementary nature of men and women. Women, typically, are great at setting short term goals that have no long term direction, while men set long term goals without knowing how to get there. Put the two together, and you have a working, viable team.
Let me illustrate this with a y ung couple that has just had a b by. As soon as a baby is b rn, the father begins planning how and who sh ’ll date, where she’ll go to c llege, what she’ll become, and even the s rt of person she’ll be. The m ther, on the other hand, just w nts to hold her baby and pl y with her baby before she gr ws up. She sees a baby, not the gr wn man or woman the baby w ll become one day. Again, this d esn't reflect all men or all w men. This reflects the majority of us. Some Good Advice:
- Work together to plan the direction of your future and marriage. Often, the two of you will come up with a better working plan than either of you by yourself.
- Your marriage is a team effort. It is not a 50% / 50% proposition. It is a 100% / 100% commitment.
- Men listen to your wives. Don't sacrifice the moment for some indeterminable future.
- Women, listen to your husbands. It is a good idea to plan for the future.
