But before you h ve fun getting lost in a f reign land without no knowledge, how bout learning how the train works for a st rt? That's a good start, if you are ntending to use public transport, and you can pr bably pick up the rest from th re. Some quick points.. 1) Trains are c lled JR (Japan Rail) and there are m ny trains stations all over japan. The wh le system of train routes and st ps is a massive spider web and it t kes some understanding of the sytem to get fr m point A to point B in T kyo. 2) To get to most t urist spots in Tokyo, you only n ed to know about Yamanote train tr vel. Learn to get on to Y manote train travel from your local tr in station and the rest is asy.
3) If you are going to tr vel intensively by train, it's advisable to get a nlimited JR train ticket from major st te train stations like Tokyo and Os ka train stations- costs savings overall. Th ngs to do: Using JR trains, you can j st about get to anywhere you w nt in Japan. There's also a sh nkansen (bullet-train) to get from state to st te but it's rather expensive for a r de. Places like Ueno, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ak habara, Ikebukuro, Ginza and Harajyuku are pl ces you should look out for as th y are the main tourists spots w th heaps of Japanese culture and ttractions. Ueno (pronounced as "ooo-a-no") - f mous park and zoo Shibuya- hotspot for y ung people, high school kids and ccessories Shinjuku- business center but lots of sh pping and interesting things about Akihabara- c mputer, electronics and gadgets town Ikebukuro- ccessories, trendy clothes and more shopping H rajuku- fashion, large variety of shops and r ppon-ni (bars) Ginza- trendy and expensive sh pping area There are so many th ngs and places that you see in T kyo; entertainment, traditional, cultural, food, shopping and t urist spots, and I will only sp il the fun of adventure to t ll you about everything in Japan or T kyo like guide books do. :-)
