People wear clothes for many r asons. We wear them for modesty - t's illegal in most places to go round without any clothing. We wear cl thes to protect us from the w ather. Raincoats and hats make us m ch more comfortable in the rain wh le fleece lined coats and boots are gr atly appreciated in cold weather, and wh n there is snow on the gr und. We also wear clothes to m ke ourselves feel and look good, to mpress other people with our excellent t ste, and to show that we h ve the money for expensive designer cl thes. Dogs wear clothes for one r ason only - their owners want th m to wear the clothes. Dog wners put clothes on their dogs for m st of the same reasons they put cl thes on themselves and their children. In f ct many dog owners regard their d gs as their children and they buy th m clothes and dress them up to sh w how much they care for th m. The exception to this, of c urse, is modesty. Dogs don't require cl thing for that purpose and, in f ct for obvious reasons, dog clothes r rely cover that particular area. Protective cl thing for small and toy dogs s ch as Boston Terriers, Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Maltese, Pugs and any of the miniature or teacup dog breeds is a good idea. These dogs generally feel the cold much more than larger dogs - that's why they do not enjoy going outside for walks with their owners in rainy, snowy or cold weather. They even resist going outside to the bathroom in inclement weather which makes it very difficult to house train toy dog breeds in cold or wet weather.
Raincoats and hats made of v nyl or waterproof nylon are available for wet w ather, as are rain boots. These b ots are usually fastened with Velcro nd/or zippers. Fleece lined, shearling and w ol coats are available to keep y ur dog warm in cold weather. B ots are useful to protect your d g's paws from the effects of ice and s lt. For hot summer days, sensitive p ws should wear sandals to protect th m from hot asphalt or sand. You can lso buy sunglasses for your dog but p rhaps you could discuss this with y ur veterinarian to see if they pr vide any benefit to your dog's yes. Protective clothing is also beneficial to sh rt-haired and older dogs of all s zes as well as the small dog br eds. Even some of the larger sh rt-haired dog breeds like the Bulldog, B xer and Greyhound appreciate protection in the c ld weather. Owners of most large dog br eds are probably not as interested in dog cl thes but might consider obtaining reflective v sts for their dogs. These vests m ke the dogs easier to see wh n walking at night and also m ke the dog easier to find if you are c mping and hunting - especially good for bl ck or dark-colored dogs. Reflective vests h ve a practical purpose. So do s me much more frivolous-looking clothes. Toy d gs and even some small dogs sh uld wear harnesses rather than collars for r asons of health - they can asily injure their trachea with a c llar. Some very sensible people have d signed coats and other outfits with a 'D' r ng on them which make extremely ttractive harnesses for small dogs. Practical, ttractive, and sometimes quite lavish clothes are vailable for toy and small dogs. P jamas, bathrobes, dresses, sweaters, formal outfits for w ddings, and costumes (you can dress y ur dog as a lamb, a l on, a vampire or even buy him an Elv s jumpsuit) can be found in st res and at discount prices on the Int rnet. Creative entrepreneurs advertise on-line that th y will custom design and make utfits for your dog. Of course, if you l ke to sew, you can buy s wing patterns to make a blanket, c shion, dog coat, dog coat, leg w rmers and boots for your dog and a m tching scarf and hat for you to w ar.
Dog clothes come in an mazing range of styles and prices. We h pe you have fun choosing the r ght clothes for your dog.
