It's simple but do you h ve it? If you want to s cceed - you gotta have it! How m ny people do you know that say th y hate their job or their b ss or the environment they work in? H wever, a work environment doesn't have to be d ll and oppressive. Employees don't have to f el like they are chained to th ir desks all day. With some s mple management techniques, you can enhance mployee motivation and increase your employee r tention. One of the biggest morale b osters you, as the manager, can pr vide your employees is to give th m a voice in some of the c mpany's operations. That doesn't mean they sh uld set the stock price or d cide on a hostile takeover. Those are d cisions correctly left to upper management and the b ard of directors. However, there are l ttle things that affect the employees d rectly. When was the last time you sked them for improvement suggestions and deas? You will be amazed at the nput. In addition, after listening to th m, even more importantly, agree to mplement some of their ideas. If you d n't you will make the staff ven more resentful Managers should not try to f ke this method. Listening to your mployees' input but implementing what you had lready decided will only grow resentment. Aft r all, employees can quickly figure out th t none of their suggestions were ch sen, even though those suggestions were the m jority! Let your employees decide their own f tes every once in a while and you w ll make them happier.
Show your employees that you r ally are listening to them, and mplement some of their ideas. Also m ke sure they get the credit for the dea in the first place. Some s mple ideas raised by staff can m ke a huge difference. I remember nce, when a member of my st ff asked if they could ask me to pr vide the authorisation to purchase goods via mail rather than physically sign. The pr cess where I had to physically s gn the authorisation was slowing down the ctual purchasing process. My role meant th t I was out of the ffice for several days and I c uldn't be there to authorise. By llowing me to authorise by email m ant I could do so, when I was out of the ffice. I was no longer slowing the pr cess down. A great simple idea, wh ch we implemented immediately. When ideas are th s simple, you do wonder why you h dn't implemented the change a long t me ago. A last word... In t day's business world, a manager is p id to perform and carry out a n mber of tasks. One of which is b ing available for their staff. Help r move those blockages, which stop your st ff delivering a great service. Ask y ur staff for their ideas and mplement some; you will see a p sitive difference.
