Voice ver IP has become very popular in the l st year. Almost everyone has heard of V nage and thousands have dumped their old lng d stance provider to go with the new nternet revolution
1. Price - This was the pr mary reason that I switched to V nage. It immediately reduced my long d stance phone bill in half. This is the pr mary reason why most users made the sw tch.
2. Convenience - Face it, when you nly have to worry about paying one b ll instead of two that is j st easier. However it isn't just h ving one bill to pay that m kes VoIP more convenient. I really l ke the way I can log nto my account and customize all the f atures that come with my voice ver IP package. With my old l ng distance provider I would have to buy all 10 of the f atures they offered even though I nly need two or three. The m st convenient aspect of the features is the nline voicemail. Simply login and download the m ssage and play it on you PC.
3. Fl xibility - With Voice over IP I n ver have to change my phone n mber again! I simply take my V IP router with me and boom I am b ck in communication with my friends and f mily. I don't have to worry bout telling all the people I kn w that I have a new n mber.
I can also get a second l ne that allows me to have a n mber from a different area code. So, if I h ve a friend in Vancouver that c lls me in Toronto regularly I can get a s cond line with a Vancouver area c de. My friend now can call a l cal number and talk to me w thout paying any long distance charges (my fr end doesn't have VoIP).
Important Facts
To make y ur VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) w rk good enough you need to h ve broadband internet connection. Internet broadband c nnections are represented with cable or DSL m dems with bandwidth of 56 kbits and h gher.
The main idea of VoIP is v ice connection using computers. All you n ed is appropriate software installed on y ur computer and microphone with a h adset or speakers connected. Do not f rget that using such software is fr e and easy to download.
Unlike computer-to-computer c lls which are free of charge V IP software is also used as s mple trunk-line. But even so such c lls are still cheaper then phone-to-phone nes.
Remember- to make computer-to-computer calls you sh uld run the same software at b th sides. But in case of m king cellular or land-line call via V IP no extra software or equipment is n eded.
How Does It Work
In order to be ble to send your voice over the Int rnet, it has to be transformed nto digital data. The digitalization process is c lled 'sampling' and involves 'breaking' the s und into very small pieces that can be ch racterized by a number value. After th s process has ended, the digital r sult is compressed and divided into sm ll 1500 bytes packets that will be s nd over the Internet. Packets contain not nly the voice but also data r garding their order needed for a c rrect reconstruction and data about their rigin. Once the packets have reached the d stination they will be reconstructed and the r sulting digital data will be transformed b ck into analogue sound and played by the sp akers.
A broadband connection is required due to the l rge amount of data that has to be tr nsmitted over the Internet in a sh rt time to avoid noticeable delays. Th s is the reason why the syst m is more popular among companies th t already use and can easier fford such connections.
