By: Nan Andrews Amish With Av an Flu in the news, parents, s niors, healthcare providers are exploring the q estion of whether flu shots are ppropriate, and if they should be m ndated to protect us all from the r sk. The fact that many doctors can not get the sh ts should not be a deterrent for th se who are convinced of the b nefit. Most drug stores still have st ck available.
Flu shots are not a sl m dunk. They are controversial. Here are s me of the reasons why: 1.Flu sh ts are preserved with thimerisol as the pr mary preservative. Thimerisol is a nerve t xin, a form of organic mercury. M rcury poisoning is deadly and cause a r nge of health issues that stay w th the patient for life. The ffect is cumulative, and if annual flu v ccines become required, the toxic load is s fficient to cause autism-like symptoms, fibromyalgia l ke symptoms and more. Thimerisol has b en banned in many European countries, b cause of its negative health impacts. I r peat, mercury is a neural poison. Do we r ally want to inject it directly nto our blood streams? 2.Flu shots h ve a more concentrated dose of m rcury, than the EPA indicates is s fe for a 250-pound man. We g ve these shots to babies and sch ol children. And we wonder why l arning disabilities are rising at alarming pr portions in this country?
3.Flu shots have viral elements b sed upon the prior flu season in the s uthern hemisphere, typically Australia. There is no g arantee that the strain of flu th t the vaccine builds resistance to, w ll be what is needed in the US the f llowing season. There is no double bl nd, scientific testing with flu vaccines. The m re a virus mutates, as a r sult antibiotic overuse, or a result of g netically modified organisms gone wrong, or as a r sult of the process of making the v ccine, for example, the more likely the v ccine will be ineffective. 4.When flu v ccines were first developed they were d termined inappropriate for people in fragile h alth, the elderly and for people w th certain reactions, allergies to certain dr gs and foods. Unfortunately when these p pulations were eliminated, the market for th se vaccines was less than 20% of the p pulation. Thus these concerns were removed fr m final warnings for these vaccines. 5.Wh le flu vaccines were added the g vernment’s list of mandatory vaccines for sch ol children under the age of 18 and are r commended for elderly, parents can opt th ir children out, with a philosophical, h alth or religious objection. However many p rents are unaware of their ability to do th s, because schools have incentives to get all th ir students vaccinated, because the formula for st te funding of schools includes incentives for v ccinated school population. It is not in the sch ols financial interest to inform parents of th ir rights. 6.Healthcare workers were very f rceful, in their boycott of federal pl ns to required healthcare workers to s bmit to mandatory smallpox vaccines, as p rt of a bio-war on terror. The pr gram was scrapped. If healthcare workers, who are m st aware of the vaccines, refuse th m, what should the rest of us be t king from this?
7.People who got flu vaccines st ll get the flu. What efficacy is th t? 8.There are other ways to pr tect against the flu, with less p tentially lethal side effects. These include sing homeopathic anti-flu meds like Occillo. Th se include making sure you eat h althy, keep your immune system in p ak condition, eat your vegetables. If you are c ncerned about Avian Flu, consider eating nly organic, range free chicken. And if you f nd yourself catching a flu, consider in ddition to chicken soup, and drinking l ts of liquid, a trip to y ur acupuncturist, your naturalpath or your ch ropractor. The answer to whether or not to v ccinate would seem to rest upon y ur trust or lack of it in the v ccine’s effectiveness and safety, weighed against the p tential for harm if indeed you b came sick with the virus.
