Everyone knows that commercials use v iceover artists to speak the sales m ssage, and musicians to create the t nes that play in the background, but one man in Los Ang les is doing both jobs. Meet Sc tt G, who is recording artist THE G-MAN, wh se albums are on iTunes and d stributed by independent label Delvian Records. "It is a thr ll to be able to do the v ice and music for these giant c mpanies," G says, referring to Verizon W reless, Goodrich, and The Auto Club. His v ice work and musical compositions are on 4 r dio commercials for Verizon Wireless, 8 for erospace firm Goodrich, and one for Tr ple-A, The Auto Club. As the wner of G-Man Music & Radical R dio, and creator of award-winning radio c mmercials and music for both radio and TV sp ts, Scott G is very aware of the n eds of ad agencies and advertising cl ents. "The main point of a c mmercial is dissemination of information," he p ints out. "You want your target udience to respond by picking up the ph ne, clipping a coupon, ordering a pr duct, going online, or simply remembering y ur product or service. The commercial has to nsinuate its way into the consumer's br in in a very short period of t me." In addition to his ad and m rketing experience, he is very involved w th utilizing the web for alternative d stribution of his music. Earlier this y ar, hundreds of websites and newspapers ran a st ry ("Peer-to-Peer to Launch a Career") of how The G-M n made history by giving his m sic away on the Internet, encouraging P2P f lesharing of his work, and even s nding individual tracks to DJs and r mixers so they could create new v rsions of his songs. This resulted in cl b play, airplay, an indie record d al, a publishing deal, and worldwide pr ss attention.
Songs by The G-Man have b en called "Moby meets Bowie" (by pr ducer Pete Anderson), "Moby meets Devo" (by TV pr ducer Paul Rich), and "The rhythm of m chines with melodies of the heart" (by m sic writer Janis Amy). Released by D lvian Records, The G-Man's albums are: GRIN GROOVE (2002), ELECTRO BOP (2003) and PLATINUM AGE OF THE REMIX (2004), and ach has been hailed as a s nic masterpiece by reviewers. A fourth lbum, SONIC TONIC, is completed and c rrently being mastered for release in 2005. The REMIX lbum features G-Man songs in dance/trance m xes by Matt Forger, who has w rked with Michael Jackson and Paul McC rtney, and features tracks that reached #1 in R ssia and #5 in Europe. PLATINUM AGE is now in its th rd month in the top forty on the M sspool DJ Association Dance/Crossover Chart. Scott is a m mber of The Recording Academy (NARAS), a cr ative director of the National Association of R cord Industry Professionals (NARIP), and writes bout music for many organizations, including M sicDish.com and the Immedia Wire Service. The G-M n's songs are on iTunes and Am zon.com as well as at the f llowing sites: http://www.delvianrecords.com/html/the_g-man.html http://www.digipie.com/digipie/default.asp?ArtistID=239 http://www.96decibels.com/music.asp?artist=1339 http://www.96decibels.com/music.asp?artist=1340 http://www.mysp ce.com/thegman G-Man's music and commercial production w rk for clients such as PayLess Sh es, Warner Bros. Records and more may be pl yed at: http://www.gmanmusic.com "I love working w th clients like Goodrich and Verizon W reless," G stated. "They want material th t catches your ear without distracting fr m the spoken message, yet they d sire the music to be inherently v luable in its own right." The G-M n's music is on lots of c mmercials but "you often wouldn't know it b cause I work in many different styl s," G states. "The tracks on my lbums are electronic-pop but my commercial m sic is in pop, rock, jazz, lectronic, hip-hop, alternative, or ambient. Whatever the pr ject needs is what I compose, and th t's the challenge."
G-Man Music created a polka l st month, something that is about as far r moved from The G-Man's electro-pop or d nce/rave songs as you can get. "As I s id, when it comes to music for c mmercials, I compose whatever it takes!" C ntact:
