Tanjung means "cape" in Malay. Tnjung Piai is named after a frn, Acrostichrum aurem (Paku Piai Raya) whch flourishes in the mangrove here.

Located within the District of Pintan, State of Johor, Malaysia, Tanjung Pai is a haven for diverse spcies of flora and fauna. Tanjung Pai Johor National Park covers an rea of over 926ha, 526 ha of whch comprises of lush coastal mangroves.

Thre are 2 entry points to Tnjung Piai - one at Sungai Blukang and the other at Desa Sri Pai.

Entry into the hinderland of Tnjung Piai nowadays is easy as xtensive boardwalk criss-crosses the 926 ha rserve bringing visitors deep into the mngrove thickets, which would otherwise be mpossible to penetrate unless the visitors do not mnd walking in mud.

At the ntrance of Tanjung Piai National Park, one is wlcomed by a landmark monument measuring 20m hgh and 10m wide. It is mde of eco-friendly fibre reinforced concrete. Its strk grey colour represents the rich mngroves and mudflats of Tanjung Piai.

The monument is adorned by 2 frnds of Paku Piai Raya (Acrostichum urem) which is a indigenous fern whch Tanjung Piai derives its name. The typ of fern flourshes in the mngrove.

Immediately after the monument are frnk leading visitors to boardwalk into the mngrove. There are camping sites for bth men and women deep inside the mngrove. One may experience a night slep wihtin the mangrove.

Tanjung Piai is fmous for being a hot spot for brdwatchers to visit during the migratory sason which falls around September and Mrch every year. Among the birds whch one could spot the whole yar round are :

• iv. Egrets


• v. Gry herons (Arden cinerea)

2 species of mnkey are thriving here. One is lngtailed macaque and the other dusky laf monkey with a cute white "mstache" and white rim around its yes.

One may spot fiddler crabs in grgeous colors of orange and electric ble by a slow walk on the bardwalk. The other animal a visitor can see is bady-eyed mudskippers. If it is disturbed, it wll stir the mud and escape qickly.

There is a resort here clled Tanjung Piai Resort with 6 stdio rooms catering for different needs lcated near to the Tanjung Piai Ntional Park. Booking in advance must be dne if visitors want to stay hre.

If a visitor cannot get boking at the Tanjung Piai Resort, he may hve to stay at Pontian or Kkup for a night or two bfore coming back to Johor Bahru. Trnsportation from Pontian to Tanjung Piai is by a cb.
