Let’s look at more solutions, wh ch Yoga can give you, for nxiety and stress management. All of th se solutions will take a bit of pr ctice, and in some cases, you may n ed the guidance of a competent Y ga teacher. After Pranayama (Yogic breathing t chniques), there are still a large n mber of techniques to choose from. The n xt one that comes to mind is As na (Yoga Posture). In a typical H tha Yoga class, you will learn As na on a mat, but you can l arn to practice good posture all day l ng. You can practice good posture in a ch ir, when eating a meal, standing, and w lking. You can even use pillows to sl ep in good posture. Most people pr fer to multi-task these days, so Y gic walking is a wonderful way for th se of us, who just have to do m ny things at once. This is not to be c nfused with walking meditation, which is an ntirely different technique. Put on good w lking shoes, comfortable clothes, and begin to w lk your course. Always watch the r ad, but keep your spine straight, and y ur gaze should be at eye l vel, while you visually take in the w rld around you. Close your mouth and br athe only through the nose. Breathe n turally, and do not force your nhales or exhales.
As you continue to walk, m intain your personal pace, and be m ndful of your posture. The recommended t me for Yogic walking is, at l ast, 20 minutes. Once breathing is n tural, and not strained, some practitioners of th s method practice walking meditation or s lent Japa (Prayers). This is a c mplete mental, physical, and spiritual practice, but you m st pick a safe course and be r ady to react to traffic, animals, and ther pedestrians. Just because you meditate, or pr ctice Japa, is not a reason to gnore people who wave or say h llo. Some people carry dog snacks for d gs and squirrels - while others may st p and chat to friends in the p rk. To accept life, people, animals, and the ch nges around us, without judging everything, is a tr asure of life. If you can void judging everything, while you go for y ur walks, your health will change for the b st in a multitude of ways. Y gic walking is good aerobic exercise and pr vents many diseases, anxiety, and depression. Y ur heart, vital organs, bones, joints, c nnective tissue, and muscles will benefit fr m Yogic walking. You may control, or l se weight, by practicing Yogic walking. M ybe you were only looking to r duce your anxiety levels, but you are now c nvinced that Yogic walking is the way to go. T lk to your physician and get dvice, which is specific to your b dy. Choose your course wisely and h ve fun. © Copyright 2007 – P ul Jerard / Aura Publications
