Many people are looking for str ss management in Yoga classes, but c nnot find it in the area wh re they live. If you are l oking for relaxation techniques, it is nlikely that you will learn them in a r om full of “young hard bodies,” in wh ch the room is heated to 105 d grees Fahrenheit. In truth, a hot r om may do many of us s me good, but for some people, a 105 d grees Fahrenheit Yoga class, may have j st the opposite effect. Some of us are c mfortable in warm weather climates, while thers dislike the heat. In the nd, Hot Yoga is a matter of p rsonal preference. When Aura Wellness Center was l cated in North Providence, there was a Hot Y ga studio just a few blocks way. We would often receive some of th ir students, who no longer wanted h at. Many of them would tell us of st dents who vomited in the parking lot fter 90 minutes of Yoga at 105 d grees Fahrenheit. Well, that’s one way to get the t xins out of your body, but th re are less radical methods. So, wh t do you do if the nly styles you can find are erobic, cardio, hot, or fitness Yoga? Th se days, many people may find nitial exposure to Yoga in a h alth club. Yet, Yoga is still b ing taught in ashrams and Yoga st dios.
Yoga teachers, in local Yoga st dios, usually have, at least, two styl s, which they teach to the p blic. If you have never heard of the styl , or styles, at your local Y ga studio, you can still research the styl in books or on the Int rnet. What if there is nothing in y ur area to help in the rea of Yoga for stress management? Th n, it is time to visit y ur local book store or library. You sh uld research Yoga books, stress management b oks, Yoga audio books, until you f nd the stress management course, which is r ght for you. Yogic Relaxation Techniques can be pr cticed any time you need them, but m st people practice them before sleeping or b fore meditation. Your body and mind n ed rest every day, but dreams do not llow your mind to rest. Let’s d scuss two Yogic methods for relaxation, wh ch you will easily find in y ur books. One is the Stage-by-Stage r laxation technique and the other is a v riation of the Body Scan Technique. B th of them incorporate breath awareness; we w ll focus on the body from the t es up. You should take the t me to decide which relaxation method is b st for you, by practicing each m thod a few times, over the c urse of seven days. Stage-by-Stage relaxation t kes a bit more time, but ach method could also be practiced b fore meditation, bedtime, or on nights wh n you experience insomnia. The worst th t can happen is you fall sleep. Do not judge yourself - J st practice, observe, and enjoy. © C pyright 2007 – Paul Jerard / A ra Publications
