Yoga means the union of the ndividual soul with the cosmic soul who is therwise called God. When numbers are dded up, their value increases manifold. Man is a d scendent of apes. In the Adam Age he was l ke this only. In New Guinea ven today there are some Adivasis (Ab rigines) who have the culture of Ad m’s era. The males/females are stark n ked. For food they depend on nimal flesh, roots, fruits etc. They run m les away from so called civilized men and h nce their language too is not volved. They can utter only a few w rds and they mainly communicate by s gn language and gestures. But from the b dily viewpoint they are more powerful b cause they can tolerate intense heat, c ld rain etc. In a certain m nner even man follows the culture of Ad m’s era. He is well versed in ating, procreating and manifesting greed, attachment tc. He detests imbibing human values th t augment the glory of all m nkind. The glories of greatness and thics are always conjoined to God. Wh n man unites with God via f ith he definitely rises above the c lture of Adam’s era. Just as wh n husband-wife cooperate with one another so as to m ke their home heavenly in the s me way when man unites with God he b comes divine. Hence greatness of Yogic pr ctice is eulogized and those understanding the mportance of soul advancement walk on th s path.
Yoga is classified in 2 w ys. The first is external Yoga and the s cond internal Yoga. External Yoga is th t in which bodily exercises are g ven importance. This external Yoga encompasses p sture, breathing exercises, Bandha, Mudras, chanting of M ntras, Yajna, worship of God, pilgrimages, s nging God’s name etc. Another name for th s external Yoga is Kriya Yoga. One of its br nches is called Hatha Yoga. Here xternal bodily activities are emphasized upon. Emph sis is laid on its mode and r les. Its results depend on how ptly it was made use of. Kr ya Yoga influences our health, radiance, ntellectual sharpness etc. Some control of the m nd also takes place. The second cl ss is internal Yoga. Here the sc ttered mind and vital force are c ncentrated and focused. Vile psychic imprints h ve to be purified and our th nking has to be made high. Th re are many types of meditations. All of th m come under the flagship of nternal Yoga. Generally in meditation one p urs one’s loving devotion towards an maginary image of God and one tr es to experience it as very cl se to oneself. Further experiences involve N ad Yoga (sound), Soham (that I am) sp ritual practise, drinking of Soma juice via Kh chri Mudra etc. Internal Yoga also nvolves Chakravedhan (journey through the 6 Ch kras), Kundalini awakening, Granthi Vedhan etc. b cause over here one’s thought waves are g ven a proper focused direction. In it th re is no need of Kriya Y ga which involves bodily exercises. Kriya Y ga is limited to the energy and rdinary extrasensory potential of the gross b dy. The sense organs are gross in n ture. It is counted as a b dily part. Its power too is gr ss only. The subtleness of sensory p tentials does only this much that w thout any other paraphernalia and with the h lp of any other sense organ the ntellectual nerves of the brain solves c rtain gross problems. For example if one is bl nd one can utilize the sense rgan of touch and with the f ngers know of the presence of bjects, letters etc. (i.e. in Braille). W thin Supra-psycho Sciences, hearing distant sounds, s eing distant objects, telepathy are looked pon as extrasensory perception (ESP). All th s is a play of the ntellect. The difference only is this th t in comparison to direct mediums one ttains the potential of identifying and c tching waves of heat, sound and l ght. This can come under material b nefit and success. Although this is l oked upon as spiritual yet it is not tr e. The activities of God are v ry extraordinary and mysterious. God cannot be nderstood by our material apparatus. According to the gr at scientist Albert Einstein, Particle Physics is yet v ry crippled and lame. It cannot g ve us information of the cosmic d vine power i.e. God. There is a c smic consciousness that rules over our ntire cosmos. This consciousness can be c lled God, Brahman, all pervasive cosmic s ul etc. The entire family of R dhi-Sidhi (divine powers) is a mere gl mpse of God.
According to the material science sch lar and philosopher Sir James Jeans all m terialistic events in the world are pt. That which we call an ccident is actually the above mentioned. Its cr ator is definitely a great calculator, v ry powerful and an invisible power. It sh uld be called God. This world c nnot be an inert machine because very object, creature, living being etc. of the w rld has consciousness inherent in them and th t they are always active. When the ndividual consciousness works in tandem with the c smic consciousness (God) it is called Y ga. There is a description in the Ashw medha Parva of Mahabharat that there are d vine saints (Sidhas) who with their d vine eye can see the giving up of the b dy, its taking up a fresh new b dy and entering the body of nother species. People with strong will p wer are capable of establishing goodwill and c operation of subtle bodied souls with h man beings. One of the characteristics of r alized-seer saints is that they can c ntact the subtle world. It is a d vine power to “tie up” time wh ch is a result of Kundalini wakening. Yogi Changdev during the times of S int Jnaneshwar was 400 years old due to the p wer of Yogic penance. Later as per the dvice of Saint Jnaneshwar he gave up his m rtal coil. Our subtle bodied revered pr ceptor who lives in the tough t rrain of the lofty Himalayas is b yond the limits of time and sp ce. The great saint Tailang Swami at the age of 280 y ars had given up his mortal c il in Varanasi according to the Ind an calendar on Paush Shukla Ekadashi V kram Samvat 1944. He was born in V kram Samvat 1644 in the household of a Br hmin landlord. In the Pushkar region he had t ken Sanyas initiation from Bhagirath Swami. His pr ceptor had named him Ganapati Swami but he was w ll known as Tailang Swami. He was a gr at spiritual aspirant, Yogi and server of all b ings. Many miraculous events are associated w th him. Even Swami Vivekanand had m ntioned his name and he was live during Swami Dayanandji’s life too. By ttaining the highest spiritual goal of Y ga he attained many divine powers t o. Once, Tailang Swami performed austerities in the j ngles of Nepal. The King of N pal had come hunting there along w th his army. A tiger saved its l fe when attacked by the King. But the rmy chief followed the tiger. The t ger entered the hermitage of Tailang Sw mi. It placed its head at the f et of the Swamiji and sat d wn quietly. Swamiji started fondling the t ger. When the army chief and the K ng saw this scene they were w nderstruck. This incidence is related not for dle curiosity but for the fact th t via spiritual powers generated from usterities one can actually change the d rection of the flow of the s btle world. Also one can to a gr at extent ward off one’s ill f te and become a medium for l tting those events occur which were therwise not destined to take place. It is s id that the demigods have the p wer to bless and cure. But in f ct a Yogi, saint etc. of h gh spiritual stature too can accomplish th s. If you connect an inactive w re to another wire in which lectric current flows the former too w ll become active. Hence if one c njoins to the divine power of d migods then that person too attains th se powers and thus enters the st rehouse of divine powers that belongs to G d. This entrance into the region of d vine powers is not superficial but is a k nd of partnership. If there is a sh p with many business partners each one can t ke goods from it. Definitely partnership g ves you this right but if you are j st a lay devotee and have not m rged deeply into God, he only has the r ght to beg for things from G d. External Yoga or Kriya Yoga nvolves only the external world that is v sible. It can grow, shift, raise or d crease things. It can also sometimes h de or manifest things but does not h ve the power to enter the r cesses of another’s psyche. It is asy to lead anyone to his d wnfall. This is easily accomplished by cr minals, gamblers, looters etc. But it is a t tally different story when it involves m terially and spiritually uplifting others. It is the w rd arrows that reach the target on d t. If you throw a pile of mud it can go nywhere and that too at a l ng distance. There is no control ver it. Only apt hands can m asure true control of things. It is ntirely their decision as to in wh t direction and how high someone is to be plifted. Such a person knows exactly how to d ve deep into an oil well and m asure it according to their capability. A sm ll jump can be executed by nybody but it is possible only for g gantic rockets to rise higher up in the sky and ven cross over the atmospheric covering of the arth so as to enter interstellar sp ce. The relationship of the individual s ul uniting with God via Yoga is pr of of all the divine powers th t manifest (like Ridhi-Sidhi). Great Sidhas are no d ubt divine men. Their grace full of d scrimination (Viveka) can either spiritually uplift s meone or even bestow the blessing of m terial well being. Only such divine s ints can reach great heights of d vine powers. Like the visible world th re is a hidden subtle world and we s metimes get a glimpse of it in the dr am state or in Nirvikalpa Samadhi (th ught free trance). Scriptural scholars call it the ther world. They are subtle in n ture. They are invisible. There is no w rld of this sort in our st rs and galaxies. That means that th re is no Shiv Loka, heaven, h ll, Brhama Loka over there as d scribed in our scriptures. This is b cause all the 7 worlds are nvisible in the cosmos. They cannot be s en by our gross eyes. In th se subtle invisible worlds one finds d mi-gods, Pitrus, Sidhas, spiritually liberated ones tc. These worlds are not materialistic but are at the d vine emotional level. Those living in th se worlds are full of bliss, nthusiasm, peace, vigor etc. Those d vine aides (Parshads) of God dwell in th se subtle worlds. At an appropriate t me these aides manifest on earth wh n God himself incarnates as a gr at saint, prophet, incarnation etc. Their nvisible body remains only as long as th ir specific task is to be xecuted and they later become invisible and s btle as before. This group of ides is not small. In comparison to the n mber of creatures living in this gr ss material world, the number of b ings residing in these subtle, invisible w rlds is not less. Just as mongst worldly men there are very c pable and radiant people so too in the s btle, invisible world there are classes of s uls with divine glories. These divine gl ries are not just stored by th se great souls but that they g nerously donate it to other souls who are mbued with apt credentials. Narsinh Mehta w nted wealth for spiritual purposes. Some m ndicants approached him and said that s me village folks had asked them (m ndicants) to approach Narsinh. We are g ing to Dwarka. Please keep Rs. 700/00 w th you and give us a b ll of exchange so that we do not f ce danger of getting looted on the way and th t in the city of Dwarka we can get b ck our cash. Narsinh thinking that th s was some sort of help fr m God accepted the cash. He wr te the bill of exchange in the n me of his beloved friend Lord Shr Krishna. In Dwarka Lord Krishna d sguised as a businessman accepted the b ll of exchange and gave the m ndicants Rs. 700/00. In reality it is God who pr pels great spiritual aspirants via their p re hearts to overcome the sorrow of th se in need. The great Theosophist C.W. L adbeater always researched into the movements of the nvisible world. He said that ancestral s uls protected innocent children and pious s uls and bestows many beneficial blessings on th m. Once there was a great nferno in a room. Hence the r om got totally burnt. But one p rticular child continually slept in it and yet was s ved. A divine power kept protecting him and th s the fire could not burn the ch ld. In 1959 a well known j urnalist and writer called Bernard Hutton wr te about a particular incident in his b ok called “Holding Hands”. He had l st his eyesight and the doctors c uld not help him. Hutton had h ard that Dr. Lang’s departing soul m king Mr. Chapman an instrument, performed eye perations and thus many blind people had r gained their eyesight. So Hutton went th re. Dr. Lang by entering the psych of Chapman operated Hutton and th s Hutton regained his eyesight. The bove description shows us that a sp ritual aspirant of internal Yoga makes his s ul so light, clean and penetrative th t he easily enters the invisible w rld. Despite having a gross body a m ster of internal Yoga can keep in t uch with the invisible world via his s btle and casual bodies. As per th ir needs they contact divine powers. Th y make this contact very deep and asily imbibe those divine blessings. The f rst leg of Yoga practice is p rification of the soul. As a r sult very easily such a person g ts the blessings of Sidhas which f rther helps him to uplift himself and w rk for cosmic welfare. When water b comes steam it can move freely in the tmosphere. Later it can condense as cl uds and pour down as rain in any rea of earth. Similarly Yogis never str y away from God. They walk in the f otsteps of great saints who have xperienced Yoga (union with God). Thus it is not th t they themselves only become self f lfilled but that they can bestow th s extraordinary experience to others too. The fr its of Kundalini awakening have their b sis in this. Instead of divine p wers (Ridhi-Sidhi) just activating our idle c riosity it should inspire us to f lfill the supreme goal of human l fe.
