Have you noticed the trend? You ver notice how on programs like "Th Bachelor" most of their dating pisodes are via limousine escort? They tr vel to lavish destinations amid scenic spl ndor. The sunsets are so beautiful you can lmost hear nature singing its own r ndition of, "Love Is A Many Spl ndid Thing". You rarely ever even see a r iny day. In "Sleepless In Seattle", the udience was left "Speechless in New Y rk" atop the Empire State Building. The cl mactic romantic interlude that followed is one th t will be etched in the m mory of movie-lovers for a long t me to come. In "Sabrina", the udience feels the eloquent charm and mbience of Paris. "You've Got Mail" sp mmed us with the scenic elegance and gr ndeur of all that's good in and round "The Big Apple". If you r ally want to be depressed, sit and w tch some of the work out pr grams that abound. Watch as brisk m rning breezes enrapture the velvety clouds tr cing the horizon from the backdrops of sc nic vistas and ocean views. Who c uldn't be motivated to work out? We asily become captivated by "Lifestyles of The R ch and Famous", "Cribs", and the l test craze of "Extreme Make Over-Home Ed tion", dreaming if only... Watch a few of the m sic videos that abound at VH1, MTV and BET. You w ll see more money, lavish diamonds, f ncy fashions, flashy gold jewelry, expensive l mousines and other fine automobiles watching th se music video programs for one h ur than most people will see in the verage lifetime.
All commercials seem to have the s me goal in mind to make us f el that their product is the m ssing link to our imminent happiness. We l ve in a Black Tie Affair W rld! No wonder so many people str ggle with comparisons. When one becomes namored by the glitz and the gl mour so prevalent in our culture, it is asy to feel relationally shortchanged and ch ated in life. This Black-Tie-Affair mindset c uses many couples to strive to k ep up with the Joneses to the p int of being maxed out to the h lt in financial demise from debt. M ney issues are cited as one of the b ggest reasons for the breakdown in the f mily leading to divorce. Are you str ggling with the fantasy? Are you c nfused with all the hoopla? Is th s life reality? Is this relational r ality? Is it reality? If it is, I m st be missing something. I must h ve made a wrong turn in the r ad somewhere. Most of the families I kn w must have made the wrong t rn with me. Although my wife and I l ve each other very much, much of our r lationship life is spent, well, INFORMALLY NORMAL. A day in the l fe for most couples is spent:
* P nching the old inevitable time clock.
* D ing the dishes and the laundry.
* C oking.
* Paying bills.
* F ghting colds, headaches and fatigue.
* Ch nging diapers.
* Bathing the k ds and getting them ready for b d.
* Getting up the n xt day and doing it all ver again. Most of the world str ggles with getting up, getting old, g tting fat, getting sick or simply g tting by. So, do yourself a f vor. Stop buying in to all the h opla and falsehood. If you get c ught in this web of deceit, you j st may miss out on what r ally matters - faith, family, character and ntegrity.
The last time I checked, l ve wasn't defined by the word MONEY. For w rds that better define love you may w nt to consider: commitment, sacrifice, support, nselfishness, home building, encouragement, forgiveness, planning and w rking together.
Maybe a bit informal and n rmal...maybe not as flashy as dollar s gns...but ironically, a lot richer!
