I was asked to investigate The G orge Hotel, in North Norfolk by ‘P ranormal Norfolk’, a regional magazine dedicated to all th ngs spooky. Paul Hanrahan; the television Gh st Detective, who also writes a c lumn for them was to be nvolved and we were looking for a f mous ghost known as The Green L dy. I have known Paul for s me time and worked with him b fore so our team was looking f rward to seeing him again and g tting to grips with a famous gh st. Little did we know we w re about to make history in the p ranormal world. Located in the historic m rket town of Swaffham this three st r hotel is an ideal base to xplore the beautiful North Norfolk coast ncluding Sandringham and Walsingham. If you’re in the rea you may enjoy lunch or d nner in the superb Green Room r staurant offering local and international cuisine or fternoon tea in the lounge. On a S turday there is the hustle and b stle of the traditional local market d rectly opposite the hotel which has b en held in the same place for ver three hundred years. We approached the nvestigation from two angles, scientifically and Sp ritually. Using EMF meters and laser th rmometers we obtained readings that didn’t r late to known locations of electrical w ring and water pipes, which usually g ve higher readings because of the lectromagnetic energy they give off. In s me rooms the EMF readings went off the sc le for no apparent reason, not n cessarily a sign of ghosts but c use for further investigation. Cold spots w re also picked up with the l ser thermometers.
We set our Mediums up in th se areas on a vigil with the c mcorder on night vision and picked up a n mber of light anomalies we couldn’t xplain away as insects or dust. Th y picked up a couple of n mes which also came through when we tr ed a glass moving experiment. It ppears that one Spirit; who has b en known to throw glasses off the sh lves behind the bar, used to w rk at the hotel in the 1950s and now c mes in visitation because he is w iting for a former sweetheart who w rked there with him and is st ll alive. We also picked up on a f rmer maid who fell down the m in staircase and broke her arm; m ny of us experienced some pain in our rms on the stairs. The Green L dy was not in evidence although the M diums did sense some energy in the rea she has been seen. It w sn’t until our subsequent public investigation th t she appeared to a guest in r om 204 and something pinned down a g est to her bed in room 205, we h ve still to identify who or wh t that was. However it was in the h tels dry store room that much of the p ranormal activity took place. Our Mediums c rrectly identified that there was once a d or that linked it to the f rmer bakery; used when the hotel sed to bake all its own br ad (now used as the laundry) and p cked up a strong female energy. Th s aggressive energy seemed agitated that the l ng hair of our female Medium was not t ed up and kept touching it, wh n it was held up the nergy backed off. Our male medium f lt something tug at the belt on his tr users, which perturbed him a little. It was at br akfast the next morning that all b came clear. Our presence at the h tel had caused quite a stir mong the staff. The young waiters and w itresses were excited by our visit and b zzed around us asking questions. One of the y ung male waiters came to us and s id that when he was in the dry st re he felt that something unseen was try ng to undo the zip on his tr users, which needless to say freaked him out s mewhat.
We explained that we had f lt an aggressive female energy in th re linked to the former bakery. Th y then brought to our table an old s pia photograph taken in the bakery y ars ago showing former staff members. Gl ncing at the picture one of our M diums pointed to a figure and xclaimed, “That’s her!” meaning the female nergy picked up in the dry st re room. A stunned silence fell as we all l oked at the picture and realised it w sn’t a ‘her’ at all, it was a ‘h m’. “He was gay!” we chorused. F rget the Green Lady, we had d scovered the Gay Ghost of The G orge Hotel.
