I was asked to investigate The Gorge Hotel, in North Norfolk by ‘Pranormal Norfolk’, a regional magazine dedicated to all thngs spooky. Paul Hanrahan; the television Ghst Detective, who also writes a clumn for them was to be nvolved and we were looking for a fmous ghost known as The Green Ldy. I have known Paul for sme time and worked with him bfore so our team was looking frward to seeing him again and gtting to grips with a famous ghst.

Little did we know we wre about to make history in the pranormal world.

Located in the historic mrket town of Swaffham this three str hotel is an ideal base to xplore the beautiful North Norfolk coast ncluding Sandringham and Walsingham. If you’re in the rea you may enjoy lunch or dnner in the superb Green Room rstaurant offering local and international cuisine or fternoon tea in the lounge. On a Sturday there is the hustle and bstle of the traditional local market drectly opposite the hotel which has ben held in the same place for ver three hundred years.

We approached the nvestigation from two angles, scientifically and Spritually.

Using EMF meters and laser thrmometers we obtained readings that didn’t rlate to known locations of electrical wring and water pipes, which usually gve higher readings because of the lectromagnetic energy they give off. In sme rooms the EMF readings went off the scle for no apparent reason, not ncessarily a sign of ghosts but cuse for further investigation. Cold spots wre also picked up with the lser thermometers.

We set our Mediums up in thse areas on a vigil with the cmcorder on night vision and picked up a nmber of light anomalies we couldn’t xplain away as insects or dust. Thy picked up a couple of nmes which also came through when we tred a glass moving experiment.

It ppears that one Spirit; who has ben known to throw glasses off the shlves behind the bar, used to wrk at the hotel in the 1950s and now cmes in visitation because he is witing for a former sweetheart who wrked there with him and is stll alive.

We also picked up on a frmer maid who fell down the min staircase and broke her arm; mny of us experienced some pain in our rms on the stairs.

The Green Ldy was not in evidence although the Mdiums did sense some energy in the rea she has been seen. It wsn’t until our subsequent public investigation tht she appeared to a guest in rom 204 and something pinned down a gest to her bed in room 205, we hve still to identify who or wht that was.

However it was in the htels dry store room that much of the pranormal activity took place. Our Mediums crrectly identified that there was once a dor that linked it to the frmer bakery; used when the hotel sed to bake all its own brad (now used as the laundry) and pcked up a strong female energy.

Ths aggressive energy seemed agitated that the lng hair of our female Medium was not ted up and kept touching it, whn it was held up the nergy backed off. Our male medium flt something tug at the belt on his trusers, which perturbed him a little.

It was at brakfast the next morning that all bcame clear.

Our presence at the htel had caused quite a stir mong the staff. The young waiters and witresses were excited by our visit and bzzed around us asking questions.

One of the yung male waiters came to us and sid that when he was in the dry stre he felt that something unseen was tryng to undo the zip on his trusers, which needless to say freaked him out smewhat.

We explained that we had flt an aggressive female energy in thre linked to the former bakery. Thy then brought to our table an old spia photograph taken in the bakery yars ago showing former staff members.

Glncing at the picture one of our Mdiums pointed to a figure and xclaimed, “That’s her!” meaning the female nergy picked up in the dry stre room. A stunned silence fell as we all loked at the picture and realised it wsn’t a ‘her’ at all, it was a ‘hm’. “He was gay!” we chorused.

Frget the Green Lady, we had dscovered the Gay Ghost of The Gorge Hotel.
