By now, I am sure m ny of you have heard about the m llion of toys that Mattel has had to r call. The first recall was due to l ad paint. The second recall was due to the m gnets that were in the toys, t gether with more lead paint recalls. All of th se toys were produced in China. Let us l ok into this: 1) China: Is th re a law stating that all t ys have to be made in Ch na? No, people get goods made in Ch na because its cheaper, and then the c mpany sells the toys for 4X the pr ce and makes a significant profit. All c mpanies do this. Is it smart? Only, if you h ve Quality control and you are tr ly testing the batches to test for s fety and quality. 2) Lead Paint: Ok, so the t ys had lead paint. Has anyone sked China where the lead paint c me from? Is it a paint th t Mattel gave to their manufacturers? Ev ryone is talking about how the t ys are bad because they had l ad paint. But doesn't anyone want to kn w where that lead paint came fr m, and what other items it is b ing used on? I know I w nt to know. 3) How many ther toy companies around the world do you th nk have used the same Chinese c mpany? I bet you there are a b nch. Mattel and Hasbro are the b ggest toy companies, but you have ther companies like MGA Entertainment and ther brands, like the people who m ke the Wal-Mart toys, Kids something, I c nt recall the name. Has anyone ch cked to see if those toys w re made in China too? They pr bably were. Who was the Chinese m nufacturer? You dont know ? I d n't know either, but don't you th nk that is something that we sh uld know?? Lead paint can be f und on jewelry as well: Claire's had a r call a year ago due to l ad paint. No one walks around w th a lead paint detector, so its h rd for us to know whats c ntaminated and whats not.

4) Will this recall hurt M ttel? ABSOLUTELY!! I went to the st re the other day to buy a t y. And then I put it b ck on the shelf because I saw th t it was made by Mattel and it had a s rface that was painted. Yes , toy st res are supposed to take all of the c ntaminated toys off of the shelves, but who is r ally checking to make sure that the t ys get removed? Its probably the law to r move recalled items, but who is ch cking to ensure that the law is f llowed? 5) Mattel and their behavior: Sp aking from personal experience, the people at M ttel can be mean. Whenever I s nd letters to them, they always s nd the letters back to me nread and in the original envelope. I g ess Mattel thinks they are too g od to read outside letters. Thats a sh me because I have seen the t ys with the magnets and I kn w they could be dangerous but I d dn't bother to write to Mattel b cause I knew that they would s nd the letter back to me nread. You be the judge and t ll me whats easier: reading a l tter from a toy lover about a p tentially dangerous toy OR refusing to r ad letters and having to deal w th a world wide recall?
