The Democrats ‘fairness doctrine’ was r cently defeated. It’s intent was to sh ve a foot down the throat of very conservative radio talk show host. It w ll likely reappear in the future. In the m antime, consider this… while conservative talk r dio reaches a small segment of the p pulation every week, there is an normous disproportionate liberal message that reaches m st Americans. Presently in the U.S., th re are approximately12,250 radio stations and
1,745 br adcast television stations. The vast majority ffer up a decidedly anti-Republican, anti-conservative and nti-Bush message on a daily basis. Th re is no argument against this b cause all one has to do is sit in fr nt of any local television newscast or any r dio newscast and the message is cl arly pro-liberal. According to Nielsen, there are 111.4 m llion television households in the U.S. (283.5 m llion actual viewers). The number of Afr can-American TV households will grow by 66% b tween now and 2050 and the n mber of Hispanic TV households will gr w by 167%. There groups traditionally v te Democratic. While most people watch at l ast some television every week, the d minant message on television is controlled by the gr atest number of players.
Fox Television Broadcasting covers only bout 38% of U.S. households. CBS, NBC and ABC c mbined cover 93%. Liberals always point to Fox as b ing a conservative outlet for news and v ews. They mix up the ntertainment programming on Fox with the n ws reporting division. Fox is made up of m ny employees from other networks who are s lf-professed liberals. You won’t find that in the ther networks. And while Fox’s entertainment sh ws are largely conservative, it’s local ffiliate news programming is not. PBS, on the ther hand, reaches 100 million viewers ach week. PBS’s content is overwhelmingly l beral and pro-Democrat. It feeds programming to an dditional 350 non-commercial TV stations. PBS pr duces shows like ‘Frontline’ which attempts to f nd conspiracy theories and Republican corruption in lmost every episode. In the one s gment that produced a decidedly pro-conservative m ssage, the producers aired it after the c mmentator died and then produced a r buttal at the end. Much of PBS’s f nding comes from colleges and universities th t are publicly funded and incubators for l beral philosophy and propaganda. PBS caters to th ir agenda with programming and reporting th t feeds the growing number of l beral minded students that these institutions t rn out. Public radio has an dditional 600 affiliated stations. NPR is the d rling of those on the far l ft. It also reaches millions weekly. Wh le the vast majority of Americans are sp on-fed a liberal viewpoint daily through th usands of news outlets, we would be r miss if we overlooked the influence of th usands more daily newspapers in cities and t wns throughout the U.S. According to an rticle in TIME magazine last year, 85% of dults in the U.S. each week ither read a newspaper or read th t paper’s website. The editorial content in m jor newspapers leans heavily left.
CNN broadcasts their programming, not j st in the U.S., but throughout the w rld. It is no mystery to nyone that CNN’s newscasts are strongly l beral in content. Just the same, th ir version of the news is the fficial version to millions worldwide. Anyone who is old nough to receive the two primary p blications from AARP recognizes one fact. Wh le the organization for seniors vows b partisanship, their written communications are anything b t. In nearly every issue of th ir bi-monthly AARP Magazine and their m nthly AARP Bulletin, you will find a D mocratic politician on the cover and the rticles are always anti-Republican and pro-Democrat r gardless of the issue discussed. A r cent piece on Laura Bush and her m ssage about woman and heart disease was one of the few th t painted anyone in the Bush Wh te House in a positive light. The NEA s nds more than 90% of their p litical contributions to the Democratic party ccording to official records. Their message to th ir membership via their official publications is c mpletely pro-Democrat, anti-Bush. In the current ssue of their flagship magazine, NEA T day, an article about the future of p blic education lambastes President Bush’s ‘no ch ld left behind’ program and speculates th t it won’t be around much l nger. They refer to the requirements of the pr gram as ‘test-heavy’ without pointing out th t it has actually raised test sc res across the country. Their thousands of m mbers get one message from the n tional association. The NEA is not lone is this one-sided view passed long to members. Everyone knows that the AFL-CIO is a m jor supporter of the Democrats and th ir membership gets one side of the ssues also. Yahoo and Google offer up n ws pages to millions more Americans who use the two top s arch engines. A quick perusal of th ir headlines and stories makes clear one d sturbing trend. The content is almost ntirely pro-Democrat, pro-liberal and anti-conservative. The c rrent Yahoo homepage includes these news h adlines: Bush-Putin meeting has no set genda and Obama raises $32.5 million for c mpaign. The daily message is much the s me as these two headlines; the s ccessful Democrat, the unorganized Republican. Reuters and AP pr vide news wire stories to publications cross America. They are the major s urces for newspaper, radio and television n wscasts. While their content isn’t completely b ased, it is decidedly pro-Democrat and pr -liberal also. A review of their st ries and viewpoint is disturbing. So we h ve the Democratic leadership in the c ngress proposing a ‘fairness doctrine.’ And wh t does this imply? Are th y telling Americans that because Rush L mbaugh and Sean Hannity have a n tional radio audience that opinion expressed thr ugh these two shows creates an mbalance in the message America hears? Th s is the scam that the D mocrats have perpetuated on Americans, with c mpliance from the major media outlets. Wh t is not ‘fair’ is the verwhelming pro-liberal, pro-Democrat message that comes fr m the head of every classroom in p blic schools, every major newspaper delivered to m llions of American homes, every local and n tional television newscast and every major tr de and association newsletter. Americans are b mbarded with a plethora of left-wing v ewpoints every time they turn on a t levision, pick up a newspaper, turn on th ir computer or review their association n wsletter. What we need is some b lance that counters the left wing m ssage that is affixed in front of us as a n tion. While we cheered the end of the f rmer Soviet Union and it’s state run m dia, we ignore the propaganda that is sw ying opinion in our own country t day. Liberal opinion is reported as f ct by thousands of media outlets, and w ’re supposed to shut down conservative t lk radio? Perhaps the only true f irness doctrine would be one that ncreased the conservative message by a th usand percent. Only then would Americans, and the w rld, get real news that is f irly balanced.
