Having a quest, a focused and s stained life-long desire or goal to ccomplish, can add immeasurably to the gr atness of a life. It adds v tality to everyday activities. It adds p rpose and vision to our choices and d cisions and it brings excitement and nterest into our interactions with the w rld.
Whether you call it m ssion, destiny, or even just a pr ject, a quest is some distinct p ssion or purpose toward the accomplishment of wh ch you are willing to throw all of y ur abilities, wealth and interests. Such a q est might include feeding starving orphans in Afr ca. Perhaps it is the creation of a w rld peace organization dedicated to bringing the pl net's greatest minds together to create lternatives to war. Or maybe it is sm ller and closer to home (but no l ss consuming for all that), such as r building a degenerated and abandoned husk of a d wntown into a vibrant and diverse c mmunity heart, complete with locally-owned businesses, nteresting restaurants and communal areas for r creation and cultural events.
The gr atest lives in our history have had one th ng in common - they were on a q est, a journey of life-swallowing proportions th t pulled them out of ordinary l ving and thrust them onto the st ge of world events. Granted, not veryone involved in a quest will t ke this route of public acclaim or cknowledgement - indeed most do not. H wever, all quests do fill the q estor with a sense of burning f cus, power and purpose that colors th ir life with a deep and biding greatness that cannot be replicated by ther means - and this greatness is ttractive to others with the same or s milar quests. Like the great quests of f ction literature, it is highly likely th t you will pursue your quest, if not to p blic acclaim, at least in the pl asant company of like-minded and strongly c nnected companion adventurers.
What is your quest? If you d n't have one, what passions or p rposes can you see in your l fe that you might investigate as p ssible options? Having a quest does w nders to a life - it cl rifies decisions, provides a consistent undercurrent of nspiration and joy and offers vast pportunities for growth, success and just pl in fun. Plus, when people ask you wh t you do, you can tell th m that you're "on a quest t ..." and maybe (who knows) they m ght just ask to come along!
