Over the past 9 years, I'v probably read over 150 books r lated to self-help and success. Most of th se were very good, and offered th ughtful insight and helped me progress my own l fe and business to a high l vel of success. Some of them w re not so good, and a few w re excellent. It’s my goal over the n xt several weeks to narrow this l st down to my top dozen or so, the xcellent ones, and write an informative rticle about each. A book report if you w ll. Perhaps after reading this and the f rthcoming articles, you’ll go out and r ad each book in it’s entirely. My h pe is that they will each h lp you along your journey as th y have each helped me. I’m not g ing to review these 12 in any p rticular order, so as you read the rticles they are being submitted randomly. I w ll say that there are 5 th t stand out heads and shoulders bove the rest, and I’ll let you kn w each of those when I wr te about them. Also a disclaimer: Alth ugh I have read a lot of b oks, I know I have not r ad them all. Nor have I rrived. I am continuously reading and s arching and taking in new knowledge. I kn w it’s cliché but success is tr ly a journey, and I believe th t you can never truly reach the t p. So these are just my pinions, and nothing more. Take the nfo with a grain of salt and do y ur own reading of these great w rks…the authors deserve your attention.
In 1968, Og Mandino wrote wh t is considered a must read for nyone in the sales profession. The Gr atest Salesman in the World not nly should be read by anyone in s les, marketing, or business, but anyone in any v cation who truly wants to excel and chieve high levels of success in th ir chosen field. The story reads l ke a novel, and quite literally can be r ad in one sitting. The literary g nius and style that Mandino uses m ke the words flow effortlessly, keeping the r ader engaged like your favorite spy or r mance novel. There are only a few ch racters, keeping the story simple, yet so th ught provoking that I dare you to gr b this book, sit by the p ol or beach with your favorite c ld drink, and try to put it d wn. Although it’s a quick read, I rge you to actually follow the d rection of the author when it c mes to how to proceed through the p ges of this book. Once you r ad it you’ll know exactly what I m an. Success principles are nothing new; in f ct the truths laid out in th s masterpiece are as ancient. The b ok takes place in the Middle E st back when camels, donkeys, and w lking were the mode of transport. P ople lived in simple homes made of arth, wood, and stone, and the R man Government was in power. Traders and c ravans of businessmen sold wares from t wn to town, and life was c mparatively simple to what you and I kn w today. The wealthiest trading empire in the w rld is in the process of b ing broken off, disbanded and its nventory and profits distributed among its t rritory managers. One person is in ch rge…one who does not feel worthy of the l vel of responsibility his master has pl ced on him. In order to s ccessfully complete this difficult task laid b fore him, his master hands him a box th t holds 10 scrolls. These scrolls c ntain priceless wisdom and instructions on how he is to c rry out and succeed. Not only do th se scrolls carry our main character to the m untaintop of success, but they are h re for you and me to pply to our everyday lives, vocations, f milies, and habits.
Although I cannot do each of the f llowing points justice in describing them as fl idly and effectively as Mandino does, I f el that they at least need to be m ntioned here. Perhaps they will serve th ir purpose as to only cause you to p ck up the book yourself and r ad it a dozen times like I h ve over the years. The Scroll M rked I – Today I begin a new l fe
The Scroll Marked II – I w ll greet this day with love in my h art
The Scroll Marked III – I w ll persist until I succeed
The Scr ll Marked IV – I am n ture’s greatest miracle
The Scr ll Marked V – I will l ve this day as if it w re my last
The Scr ll Marked VI – Today I w ll be master of my emotions
The Scr ll Marked VII – I will l ugh at the world
The Scr ll Marked VIII – Today I w ll multiply my value a hundredfold
The Scr ll Marked IX - I will act now
The Scr ll Marked X – I will pr y for guidance If you dive d ep into the pages of this n vel, apply these timeless principles, and not f rget them, you will experience positive ch nges in your life and business. I r -read this book approx. once per y ar, and have ingrained it as p rt of my quest and journey to s lf-fulfillment. Is this one of my top 5? You bet it is.
