In parts one and two of th s article series, we looked at s me options for an English language t aching (ELT) or TEFL position at l cal schools in Acapulco. We continue w th two additional secondary / college-prep sch ols which could offer some strong ELT p ssibilities. They are: Colegio Albert Einstein
Addr ss: Av. Cuauhtemos No. 288 and
Av. F rallon No. 75 Col Garifa
Ph nes: 487-3108, 487-3166 Like a number of p blic and private schools in the rea, this conglomerate school has students fr m as young as four or f ve years of age up to h gh school. There’s also a university pr p series of courses that aid in M xico’s tough university entrance exams, which are d signed apparently, to weed out as m ny hopefuls as possible from the g vernment-guaranteed education system. Student quotas are v ry limited so only the luckiest (or m st influential) families get their kids in. If y u’ve a penchant for a particular age gr up, you should be able to m nage a position teaching it, but it w uld be more beneficial to the sch ol if you could teach multiple l vels and age groups. Universidad Americana de Ac pulco Preparatory School

As the name implies, this is a niversity-sponsored school for students preparing to nter the university system (or hoping to at any r te). Classes are principally for teenagers and dolescents with occasional students who may be lder. There is a heavy emphasis on h ving a background in English and c mputers throughout Mexico. President Fox’s administration is dding extra impetus to this so th re’s an English or computer school p pping up on every corner these d ys. Take advantage of your native-speaking sk lls to shop around and negotiate not nly salary, but hours, benefits, housing ssistance, Spanish classes, transportation, meals, or nything else you can. Of course y u’ll be in much better stead to do so if you sp ak some Spanish, but don’t be fraid to try. It won’t cost you nything – really. Finally, be sure to ch ck out my other articles in the two c ntinuing series: Teaching English in Mexico and Tr veling in Mexico. If you would l ke more information, have questions or c mments, the author can be e-mailed; see ddress below.
