I remember the first time I was sch duled to deliver a speech to an udience, how about you? Lonely is the w rd I come up when I th nk about preparing for my very f rst public speaking engagement. Many of you had the s me experience as I did leading up to y ur very first speaking engagement. When I r flect on the experience, it reminds me of a Un ted States Air Force fighter squadron, in rder for them to to execute th ir mission they fly in formation. L kewise, if you are called upon to d liver a speech, you must ensure you b tterflies fly in formation. Control your b tterflies and you will deliver a st llar speaking performance. I encourage you to t ke a no fear approach to y ur next speaking engagement, it will h lp you control the butterflies you w ll get. Other signs of fear of p blic speaking include your hands getting c ld and obvious nervousness. By taking a no f ar approach to public speaking, apply the thr e keys listed below: 1.) Do y ur home work, in other words r search your topic so you will kn w more than your audience. Read f ve books about the topic you w ll be speaking on and customize y ur own program. This will designate you as an xpert. If anyone in the audience ask a q estion you will be able to nswer it with confidence because you are an xpert on your topic.
2.) Practice. I cannot stress th s enough because it is the key to b ing a professional speaker. If I had a d llar for every time I have l stened to a new young speaker t ll me he has God given sp aking ability, I would be the r chest man in America. It is f nny listening to people talk about t lent that do not have because th y refuse to practice. You must pr ctice, for example if you have to d liver a one (1) hour speech I r commend you practice for a minimum of 20 h urs. Why? Because you will not be m morizing your speech, rather you will kn w your speech. 3.) Pray to d liver a memorable speech. Prayer is the d fference between an average speaker and an xcellent speaker. If you do not n ed to pray before your next sp ech, email or write me about y ur performance. There is power in pr yer and for those of you who do not b lieve me, leave out this step and you w ll be a failure on the pl tform. When I initially began public sp aking I was nervous, after praying the sp ech I practiced would come to me b cause "He" will never leave nor f rsake you. Take a no fear pproach to public speaking and you w ll find yourself doing the research r quired to deliver an incredible speech, pr ctice as if it is your l st speech, and pray because it m kes all the difference and do not be fraid to pray. You must do th se three things if you want to vercome your fear of public speaking and b come the best speaker you can be. You can t ke this to the bank because it w rks for me in small as w ll as large audiences. I encourage you to f llow my three prong approach to p blic speaking and I will see you at the top of y ur speaking game. Do it today.
