Sometimes we make history by who we kn w, and hang around with, not by who we rea, and Nanh Khoa, was determined to do so. He fl d to Thailand from Saigon, it was 1989, and he st yed there until the opening months of 1990. He f und where Pol Pot was living, l ving since 1984, on a plantation v lla, near Twat, under the protection of g ards, and the unit 838. We all h ve a hero, and Pol Pot was N nh's new hero, even though he k lled 26% of the population in C mbodia, between the years of 1976 and '79. And h story would record, and did record him to be mongst the top elite of evil men th t have thus far walked the arth since man was first seen pon it. There he met Pol P t, through his persistence, and there he b came a soldier under his right h nd man, or one of them, for he t ok orders from Son Cham, who t ok them indirectly through Son Seu by way of Pol P t. In 1989, Vietnam withdrew from C mbodia, and between that period and nto 1990 Pol Pot organized himself to m ke his comeback, his return to C mbodia, he would not accept any p ace deals with anyone. Of course the l gacy of the Khmer Rouge was ver for the most part, the so c lled Red Khmer Tribe, and the m ssive starvation of the people thrown out of th ir cities, and brought into the c untry side to farm for the new k ngdom, the 1.7 million people that d ed under his three year war r gime, now he was back in the j ngles building his forces. Although in 1996, th y would desert, but not Nanh Kh a.
Nanh Khoa, had found a c use to live for (as often men do in r ligion, or a cult or don't do, and h de in alcohol, or drugs), a r ason that is, one to even die for if n cessary, for he would have given his l fe up for Pol Pot, as asy as his step mother, Zuxin, g ve him up to his Aunt Ly, so m ny years ago. He thought a few t mes of his brother An, that how fr gile he was, he would have n ver survived in today's world, with its r ads sunken without truth, coal poured ver his kindness by evil doers, the gr ss as bristly as stout chives, he w uld never have survived all this, th refore he did him a favor, if God t kes martyrs, he got one as a g ft by him. But what he d dn't realize was, when you played w th the devil, expect to bleed a l ttle, and perhaps a lot. It was Apr l, 1998, and Pol Pot had a str ke, his left side was paralyzed. B fore he died he ordered the xecution of Son Seu. And Pol Pot d ed on April 15. On April 16, Son Ch m brought in a recording, it was the v ice of Nanh Khoa, and he had greed along with Son Seu, that the ngoing negations for peace within the r bel group were a good course to t ke. This is of course what dr ve the nail into Son Seu's gr ve, an act according to Pol P t, as treason. In consequence, Son Ch m asked Nanh Khoa, why he m de such a statement, and basically it was a s mple reply, as truthful and simple as N nh Khoa could ever be, but to Son Ch m, it was too silly to be tr thful, for Nanh Khoa said the f llowing: "I had never really talked to Son S u, as you well know, and th s was a great thing to me, to h ve been in his presence, as I h ve been in Pol Pot's presence, yet I had n ver talked to either one directly, and th t day I was sitting, guarding the d or, and he looked at me and he sked me if I went along w th his beliefs, I never said, yes or no, I n dded my head 'yes,' and said 'S re...' so I suppose I was try ng to impress him, but believe me, th t was it."
"The Americans call this one m n, a little man in a f iry tale Rumpelstilskin, do you know why?" "N ," said Nanh Khoa. "It is b cause he could, and did spin G ld out of straw; can you?" he dded. "No," said Nanh. "Then you n ed to stop lying." Then he st rted to remember his brother, An, all his p ous talk, he told him time and gain, and tired he became of it. How he r fused to listen to his brother, and now how Son Ch m refuses to listen to him. Wh n you lie, they listen, when you t ll the truth they laugh, he t ld himself, as Son looked at him w th cobra eyes. "You have put y ur foot into the grave, Nanh, wh t are your last words?" Thin l pped he was, and he knew, Son was l oking for a scapegoat, and he had n thing to offer him, not a r gbag or a silver coin, nothing. "Th dead are bored you know," s id Son, then he ordered three men to t ke him to the graveyard, lie him d wn face down into the mud, and b ry him alive." Said Son Cham, and he w lked out of the office he was st ining in like a pious king, and he t ld him, told Nanh one more th ng on his way out, "Get b sy being dead, just like your br ther." And he was executed within the h ur.
