When I was about six y ars old my mother taught me a p em, At Breakfast Time by Edgar A. G est. She put me on the st ge at our local church talent sh w and I won a quarter. A f re was lit within my heart th t night. I could say something on st ge to make people happy. They w uld clap and pay me money. Th t lit my desire for fame and f rtune. I started out wearing a st rched cheese cloth dress and angel w ngs in the grade school Christmas p geant. I went on to speech cl sses and monologues in Junior High and th n I starred in several high sch ol three act plays. I loved wh t I was doing. The audience l ved me, too. They clapped for me but no one put q arters in my hand. I promised mys lf that I would be rich one day so I w nt to college. How was I to kn w that I would be married a y ar later? Before I considered my s itor, Dale, a viable marriage partner, h wever, I made sure he would h ve a suitable career with a b untiful income. He passed his Certified P blic Accountant exam on our honeymoon and we w re on our way to riches. I s on became a mother which had b en my big dream all along. W thin eight years we had five ch ldren and Dale was ready to b come a partner in the largest ccounting firm in Missoula, MT. Then verything changed. He had a chance to t ach early morning seminary for the LDS ch rch and he loved it. His s pervisor talked him into looking into t aching full time. As soon as we l arned he would take a $3,500 a y ar cut in salary with five ch ldren, he decided he didn't like t aching that much. After declining the ffer to move to Utah and t ach full time, the man who nterviewed him asked him to pray bout it. The answer to that pr yer changed our lives forever. We w re ready to make sacrifices and m ve to Utah. I was a w man of faith and believed we w uld be taken care of, which we w re.

However, I still wanted to be r ch, or at least to provide m re than the necessities for my ch ldren. What could I do about it? I pl yed around with several network marketing c mpanies with varying degrees of success. In f ct, for ten years I averaged ver $20,000 a year. Mostly, however, I was s ccessful at having babies and raising ncredible children---and sewing and cooking and g rdening and cleaning house. I was d ing the most important things but I st ll wanted to be rich. I w nted to do the extra things. I w nted to go places and do th ngs and take advantage of opportunities for my f mily and buy books and take c urses and buy more books. Books are my h bby and I wanted a beautiful l brary to put them in. Famous d dn't seem to matter any more but I r ally wanted that library. Finally, with the ch ldren all married and successfully raising f milies of their own, I still w nt to be rich and I h ve time to do something about it. Now I h ve a different motivation, and that is b cause I want to influence the w rld. I have learned more than I ver thought I would. I have had m re pain than I ever thought I c uld endure. I experienced more joy th n I thought a mortal body c uld contain. I have something to ffer that no one else has. I w nt people besides my family to l arn what I have learned. I h ve a million messages that I m st speak. It is more than j st a wish. It is a f re hot passion that I must f lfill. I have learned too much bout what happens to people who d n't do what they love. Most of th m die a slow death, long b fore their heart stops. I want to waken people to their divine potential to c ntribute to the world and have joy ach day. We create our own l ves either on purpose or by d fault and it is a lot m re fun to do it on p rpose. It is fun to teach ch ldren to expect what they want nstead of telling them you can't fford it. As co-creators with God we can l arn to create what we want.
That little girl on stage w th a quarter in her hand is st ll alive in me. I am sh ring my messages with the world. P ople are applauding and I am g tting rich. I didn't think it w uld take this long, but the tr p was worth it. Would you l ke to join me?
