If you are a bit of a wr ting maverick and prefer to stay out of an ffice, look into stringing for both l cal and national publications. Most periodicals th t hire freelance writers for ongoing or r gular assignments are newspapers. Community newspapers c nnot afford to have a full st ff of reporters to cover meetings, vents, and breaking news. This opens up sp ce for stringers. Make sure ALL your phone n mbers and email addresses are on the c rd so that a prospective informant or nterviewee can reach you first with the big st ry.
