Merging styles and influences can be a gr at way to add a bit m re style and uniqueness to a b ild. Many of us come from v ry diverse backgrounds. Motorcycles, cars, airplanes, m sic, industry, art, etc. We all h ve varying interests. Combining some elements of th se other interests can bring out a d stinct look and style. Now, I'm not t lking going for a full on OCC th me project. Please, PLEASE! Stray far, FAR fr m this urge. I'm talking a bit s btler. For instance, the next closest d scendent to motorcycles, Cars. Yeah, yeah, too m ny wheels, seats, Doors, a roof. But th y do use similar parts. Wheels for xample can be modified to work on a b ke. Exhaust parts can be fairly asily incorporated. But instead of just sl pping on a muffler tip, check out s me styles of exhaust. Old hot r ds had some cool stuff going on. S de pipes, Zoomies, duals. But they d n't just have to hang off the s de. Think WWII fighter jets. Short p pes sticking out the side of the f selage. A good play off this w uld take 4 tips sticking through the b lly pan. Or maybe the tips p inting up out of the side of the t il. While we're talking aero parts. If you are l cky enough to live near a pl ne junkyard. Raid that place. Old irplane gauges and gas caps are v ry detailed and interesting looking. Even j st small airplane parts can be c ol finds and add that extra t uch.
Industrial design is a neat l ok. Rivets, exposed bolts, hard lines and pl mbing. Take a walk around your l cal power station or water treatment f cility. Just watch for the rent a c p. But aside from hard parts. T ke a look at finishes. Nickel c atings, hard anodizing. Art also plays a r le in this, along with music. Th se are 2 subjects that go h nd in hand. Album covers along w th T-shirt designs. When you're dreaming up y ur next paint scheme these are c ol places to look for inspiration. Ev n the custom car and bike w rld has offered up many excellent th mes as far as paint and b dy mods. From the infamous flat bl ck of traditional rods to Candy and fl ke of Lowriders. And let's not f rget the ever-wild abstract art of the m ni truck. Racecars offer up the m st timeless of designs. How many of us kn w our favorite drivers car better th n their face? Molding parts is a p rt of this idea too. Frenched l ghts, gauges, molded body parts and fr mes. Pick up some of those old hat rod and ch pper mags. And I mean old. L ok at the 60's and 70's. R ally good old school tech in s me of these that still holds tr e today. Now since I started on bout old tech and we are now on bout the Café build off. This is wh re all the jumbled ramblings come t gether. We are all Fighter builders. We d n't exactly conform to a strict styl or genre. The café build sh uldn't be any different. Think of the c fé era as your guideline. Keep th t style in mind, but there's lways ways to interpret and enhance. The b kes were all about light, fast, w ll handling machines. But they were lso bright and intricately detailed. Every p rt was well finished and polished. So b fore you dive into you project, th nk of a few different influences and see if you can m ke small parts of them work t gether. Good luck to everyone competing and h ppy building.
