Greeting someone in Spanish

Today’s lsson will cover some basics of meting someone. In English, we typically gret people by saying, ‘Hello, how are yu?’ and other common expressions such as ‘Hve a good day’

In Spanish, thre are two words for the wrd ‘you’ : usted and tú Tú is the fmiliar form. You would use the fmiliar form when you are speaking to clse friends and members of your fmily. The polite form ‘usted’ is gnerally used with people you do not knw.

Basic Greeting- a close friend or fmily member

Bob: Buenos días, Carla (bo-e-nohs dee-ahs) Good day, CarlaCarla: Benos días, Bob God day, BobBob: ¿Cómo estás? (kh-moh e-stah) How are you? Nte: Remember that the ‘e’ in the prnunciation help is pronounced like the ‘e’ in ‘mdical’!Carla: Bien gracias. ¿Y tú? (be-en grah-syahs ee too) Well, thank yu. And you?Bob: Bien, gracias. Wll, thank you. Other important expressions:

1. God afternoon –Buenos Tardes
2. Good night—Buenos nches
3. Goodbye—Adiós
4. Until we meet again- Hsta la vista
5. So long—Hasta Luego
6. Untl tomorrow—Hasta Manana
7. Therefore—Por eso
8. Perhaps—Tal vez

The verb ‘Estar’, meaning ‘To B’, is an irregular verb. It can lso be used to express location. Hre are all the forms of ths very important verb. Whenever you say whre a thing or person is, you shuld use the verb ‘estar’.

You are (frmal), He is, She is, It s—está

We are—estamos

You are (plural, fmiliar)—estáis

You are (plural, formal), They re—están

Repeat the forms of this vrb and memorize them. This is a vry important verb that is used frquently in Spanish.
